I don’t think you understand what I am saying. MDA isn’t being thrown under the bus and neither is Anderson or really anyone for that matter. I never said that MDA believed he couldn’t handle Anderson and I never said that Anderson was a bad guy. It really isn’t a matter of either Anderson or MDA being dramatic. It really has nothing to do with being business like, because as far as I know there is no animosity between MDA and Anderson. MDA did not a player on the roster that did not want to be on the team and did not want a player on the roster that he had no intention of playing. I don’t think it was specific to Anderson (although that is my speculation) and had to do with the situation. Likewise Anderson wanted out as well. He had gone from being a primary piece to an after thought. MDA cannot make Morey do anything, but made it clear that he wanted the Anderson situation settled before the season/camp. The situation resolved according to the timeline MDA wanted. Is that the sole reason? I don’t personally know that, but seriously doubt it. It isn’t a weakness on the part of MDA... it is how he wants to coach his team. He likewise wasn’t happy about the Motijunas situation and prefers to have player additions made before the season as well.
Appreciate the clarification. I too misunderstood you on why MDA wanted Anderson out before the season.
I would rather have Johnson and Melton without giving up a pick as we will need to do with Knight... but let’s see what comes tomorrow
PHX also got Wayne Ellington (buyout candidate?) MIA is very close to ducking under the luxury tax line now. Phoenix gets a passable guard in Johnson. Solid move.
To be fair, Phoenix had the benefit of Anderson agreeing to make part of his contract non-guaranteed in the final year when he was traded from Houston. Makes it more appealing than what Morey was trying to move when Ryno was here.
Assuming the contract stays the same and that agreement carries over, the Heat have to decide by July 10 whether they want to guarantee Ryno's full $21M+ for that last year of his contract. If they do NOT guarantee the full amount, they're required to waive him and pay him the guaranteed $15M+ anyway. So it wasn't really a huge gamble on Ryno's part, since (if Miami waives him this summer) he'll surely find someone willing to give him $5.6M for the 2019-2020 season, especially is he shows some value on the Heat in the next few months. He'll get his full $42M one way or another, even if he has to go to China to get it.
thats right I forgot about this part of the deal. Otherwise I would have been kind of annoyed that Ryno was traded for knight/Chriss and we lost Melton. Would have preferred TJ, Ellington and Melton, but no way that happens without that part of his deal being non-guaranteed. But also maybe Miami wasn't willing to deal with Houston. They dealt with Phoenix in the past and maybe "owe" phoenix something still from the Dragic trade
On the one hand... not looking good for DM. Why not just hold onto Anderson and do this trade yourself, while keeping Melton? On the other hand, one would assume his hand was forced $$ wise, and that if he wanted Johnson/Ellington, he could have offered Knight right now (sweetened with a 2nd rounder or something).
Hated the deal then hate it more now. We traded an asset plus ryno for garbage and they traded ryno for playable players
Knight was a risky play for sure. I think DM was banking on Knight being even 50% the player he was. He isn't. I would be surprised if this wasn't Knight's last contract in the NBA. He's got a great attitude, and he's dealing with all this really well, but that injury just did him in.
Problem is Morey trades always reported as a win for Rockets, now other GM’s do not want to deal with him really. I would hire someone else and let Morey pull the strings in shadows...
I get that... but again, the strong implication here is that DM didn't want THESE playable players. And can't really blame him. I'm not sure Johnson's cap hold (it was one of those strange deals), but dude will get paid $19 million next year, which is basically Ryno's salary... and is also not good. So not good for not good. And what's more, he plays a position we have an abundance of. All in all, my main problem is I'd rather have just kept Ryno. Even on this team. Spot spacing, shooting. And in the offseason more tradeable. But a $$ issue I guess.
With you there completely. Fans get wrapped up in what they think a player should be, and overlook what he is. People, Ryno wasn't a cancer. He was on a down trend, but he will get another NBA contract. Chriss and Knight? I wouldn't be so sure. Would you want either one on a vet min deal?
Most of times, for some reason people just like to assume players from other teams are better than what we already have, probably cause they don't really follow the players or read about them, but reality always has the last word.
