Because you didn't explain your reasoning for posting the article. Your MO lately had been to troll and act as a 'reasonable' contrarian. So I asked because it wasn't clear.
What is it about people in Virginia? Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring admits to dressing in blackface in 1980 https://wjla.com/news/local/virginia-attorney-general-mark-herring-blackface
The problem is that insisting that a person having once worn "blackface" disqualifies people from holding public office, not to mention insisting that it disqualifies a current officeholder, is ridiculous. This is the Democrat left's neo-Marxist "Political correctness" lynch mob style orthodoxy enforcement agenda going off of the rails, yet again. Talk about evil. This Democrat left driven agenda and its methods are consistently far worse than whatever they are hunting down to ruin and destroy. It is a mistake to concede the premises that this agenda promotes, even if it provides an opportunity to hoist these people by their own petards, as many are cheering for here and with the Lieutenant Governor's pending sexual assault charge. We must realize that the enemy here is this vile agenda, and not the individuals who might be hurt by it. We need to step back and not allow ourselves to fail to see the forest because we are busy dealing with the trees. The effort to disqualify this governor and having him removed for office for having worn blackface is a big mistake. Likewise for anyone else that is determined to have behaved similarly. Try to maintain some perspective here, people. The enemy here is not these people. It is the Democrat left's extremely vile, uncivil and thoroughly intolerant "Political correctness" agenda.
Wow, the second time I have to ask... when did becoming offended by a racist act like dressing in blackface become so foreign to republicans? And instead... somehow sidestepping and trying to politicize it as "political correctness agenda"?
Bet as soon as republicans figure this out they will be changing their stance to "black face is wrong!" and "always believe the woman"... Seriously, the next governor of virginia may rise to the position by having his name drawn from a hat.
It is not a good look, but it is not nearly as big of a deal as you guys are trying to make out of it. And the Democrat left "Political correctness" lynch mob style enforcement is a pretty regular thing now and has been for quite a few years. This pattern of conduct is far worse than some guy wearing blackface at a party 35 years ago. We need to start insisting on a reasonable measure of proportionality and perspective when these politically motivated hatchet jobs get brought up. And just because someone is offended, it does not automatically follow that extreme retribution is an appropriate course of action. Seriously, the people that are members of these "Political correctness" lynch mob style vendettas need to get a grip.
The bigger problem, again much like Elizabeth Warren, is politicians don't know how to respond to these mistakes when they come out. They compound the hell out of them.
Apparently we will just have to disagree. I'd rather err on the side of "a racist act" is wrong and someone that governs all people including the group the racist act targeted shouldn't govern. I'd hope that "not doing something racist" isn't an unreasonable or too high of a bar for those that govern.
If Fairfax is made governor (before resigning), he has to appoint a new Lt Governor. So that would disrupt the line of succession for the Speaker to be made Governor. I'm sure the interviews would only have 2 questions: "One, have you ever worn blackface, even a long, long time ago? And two, do you have any cause to believe someone might accuse you of sexual assault, even a long, long time ago?"
Is it clear that a significant part of african american population would be offended when a white 19 year old puts on brown make up to go to a costume party in order to look the part of his favorite rapper? Asking for a friend (cause I don't go to costume parties, although i'm a fan of music by Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar and even Kanye West). Also, I wasn't born in US.
Whoever thought there were degrees of this - first off the fact that Mark Herring could have been a Beastie Boy since he was an early adopter of hip-hop is vaguely impressive. Second, I guess it's probably poor taste cultural appropriation, but it seems liek being 19 and not standing next to a klansman, this may be a lot closer to the Statute of LImitations than Northam.
Why does your post have this link at the bottom which says “Rate this post positively”? When clicking on that link, it takes me to the city-data.com forums. Are you seriously copying content from other sources and pasting it here as your own?
For the record, I too was in college in 1980 and never once wore blackface. Thought never crossed my mind.
hahaha good find, @MojoMan are you Spartacus713 from the City-data forums or uggabugga? http://www.city-data.com/forum/poli...9-third-line-succession-admits-he-wore-2.html
