[Lloyd] Cavs engaged with Rockets on deal involving Alec Burks

Have you seen Burks play?

Not a star but certainly not a G league player.

Burks = Evan Turner.

I looked through the Cavs/Jazz subreddits and by all accounts, those fanbases love him. They all say the same thing, solid bench piece, great in the locker room, and a great catch and shoot/ shooter. Defense is bad but I would guess if we trade for Burks, then EG is out the door for a bigger piece.

 

I wouldn’t be surprised if we made a move for JR instead. He is a rotation wing as well, and his contract would be very valuable after this season.

Burks’ contract is expiring so after Feb 7th, you can’t extract value from it. But JR’s is $3 MM guaranteed in 2020. In the time period after the playoffs but before the 2019 fiscal year ends (i.e. June 30th), you could plausibly trade JR for a player getting paid $15 MM in 2019 and 2020. The team receiving JR could just cut him on that same day and immediately save $12 MM in 2020.

That potential has to be alluring to Morey.

Burks was super annoying in the playoffs last season when they were forced to play him with all their injuries. Nobody remembers that? I do.

Yeah this strategy to have our #2, #3 and #4 best players all get hurt for extended periods is a terrible one. What was Morey thinking??

I think a better strategy would have been to NOT have them get injured. I bet we win maybe 10 more games if they all stayed healthy. Stupid Morey.

You watch - he probably has a strategy for Paul to get hurt again in the playoffs. When will he learn??

I'm holding out hope that the Burks rumour is part of a bigger deal. A deal where a team wanted expirings, not Knight and a 1st, and so we are going back to old homework to reroute an expiring.

I like Burks, but really...

 

I wonder if Burks can throw a better alley-oop than Gordon? With his driving ability, if he’s on the floor with Clint then that pass should be there.

 

Tobias Harris is worth 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks...AD must be worth 7 first round picks...
