    So, this would be
    • Houston trades Ryan Anderson, Melton and a 1st Rounder
    • for Alec Burks
    • and the right to cut Marquese Chriss

Maybe Chriss goes in the trade, too?

ESPN’s Zach Lowe says that the Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers were in talks in a trade that would send Brandon Knight, Marquese Chriss and a future first-round pick to the The Land in exchange for guard Alec Burks. He has added that the talks have ceased for now but who knows if they could be re-ignited as things get closer to the deadline?

Dude has had an extremely unlucky run of injuries.

Regardless, I love his size at 6-6 with a 6-10 wingspan, and back in the day he could really shoot and even get to the line.

    Interesting.

This is disappointing. First round picks can be pretty valuable. There are plenty of late gems to be had. Teams don't give them up lightly. To give one up for tax savings just hurts to see as a fan.

Didn’t they say they wouldn’t use a 1st just for cap relief?

    Ryno/Mid-2ndRounder/Late-1stRounder

For Alex Burks on an expiring contract. (To be moved again?)

Dude, this gives us a usable body to take up minutes and not **** the bed. For the corpse of knight and a high 20’s pick, with 2 days left to deal.

Effectively just gave away our 1st round pick for 30 million dollars, barring Burks turning into a decent player in Houston (we've seen stranger), a complete waste of a pick.

I don't see how this can be part of a bigger move unless we trade Burks as an expiring within the next 60 hours, maybe we use to match salaries for a better player (Beal?), but acquiring such a player just got harder sans a first round pick.

So it only cost us 1 first round pick in the end to dump Anderson? That's not bad.

Horrible contract at the time he signed it, and it burned us badly!

Luxury tax savings doesn't bother me that much if it means they could then spend the MLE or land a buyout candidate. It would help a lot to get Knight off the books next year as well.

Basically it would be De'Anthony Melton and a first-round pick for Burks, Chriss and the shedding of Ryan Anderson's contract.

Edit: @heypartner beat me to it.

    False Alarm?

Still concerning that it even got this far.

EDIT: Didn't see that Chriss was part of the deal, would he even get playing time in CLE?

I think Burks would be good in our system. I really liked what I so from him in the playoffs. Like others have said he is always hurt. It would not shock me if we traded for Burk and bought him out to save the tax bill.

According to my spreadsheet, sending Chriss as well and only getting Burks back gets us 600k within the tax line. Give away IH, and poof! No TAX! We doing a great job going all in with Harden.
