There is a difference between "bullying" and saying that his economic phillosphy is horribly out of touch with the majority of Americans.
1) The amount of coverage he is getting is extremely disproportionate to his actual changes of impacting anything. 2) There are calls to boycott Starbucks because he is even considering running 3) MSNBC had guest after guest yesterday calling this a vanity project and equating him to Trump just running to stroke his ego with his money, etc. He's being targeted. They are scared he could actually cost the democrat an election so they want to force him out.
I heard a tape of the interview and he did come up with exactly that answer (he doesn't eat Cheerios). I scratch my head at the comparison with sarah palin. What is possibly similar between the two? Sorry to be so blunt, but palin is an idiot, a political troll, and a person who deserves scorn. Again, I think if Schultz ran as Democrat there would be no complaints. I'd compare with John Anderson running, or even Ross Perot... and I suspect then the complaints came from the republican side. And in this instance, its fresh on the outcome of the last election, when Jill Stein had more votes than the difference between trump and Clinton key states that tilted the election.
Shows what I get for reading the tweet instead of watching. The Palin comparison I'm making is that if he were running as a Democrat he wouldn't be asked that question (cost of cheerios.) He was asked that question because the people at morning joe are mad at him for running (or thinking about) as an independent, fearful that it will give the election to Trump. If Michael Bloomberg gets into the race as a democrat I guarantee no one will mockingly ask him to recite the price of grocery items that everyday Americans own (except maybe on Foxnews). That's my point. They are lashing out at him and treating him with the disdain they treated Palin. The source is difference (they had no respect for Palin because they thought she was an idiot) but the treatment is.
I think the question is more based on his being a millionaire getting into politics while positioning himself as a "common man" (which he does, telling his life story).. I suspect Herman Cain got the question, and Bloomberg probably did in his first campaign. And note I thought the question was silly. And note while I welcome him as a candidate (I think having more really good choices is better than choosing between the lesser of evils). I also don't think the media is being too harsh on him. During the same interview tape I heard the interviewers talk positively about his life story (his father losing his job, growing up in the projects, having no insurance). He talked about how access to health care is a right for all and wanting to keep ACA in place but fixed. I didn't hear the whole show, so don't know what was said in the entire interview or before and after, but it sure didn't sound like he was being attacked in the parts I heard on tape.
So what? He's been a major Democratic contributor for years, yet out of the blue, he decides to run as an independent and immediately begins criticizing fellow Democrats, regardless of whether they are running for president or not. The man deserves the reaction he's getting. I have no problem with it at all. The problem I have is that Shultz decided arbitrarily to run as an independent. He obviously will be running against the same party, to the best of my knowledge, he's a member of. He won't be running only against Mr. trump. Shultz has already made that clear. Just so you will know, I wouldn't have any problem at all had he decided to run in the Democratic primaries. I think the majority of Democrats feel the same way. This is on Shultz, not the Democratic Party. It's his decision to portray himself as an "outsider." It's his decision to criticize his own party when the primary season is just beginning. There is no doubt in my mind that if he does end up running as an independent, it will help trump. That's the very last thing Democrats, a huge number of independents, and some moderate Republicans sick of trump actually want. All that is perfectly clear to me. I am surprised that it isn't clear to you. Boycott Starbucks It is a message Shultz will understand. (And what does Palin have to do about anything?)
Schultz is a successful businessman who ran a “relatively progressive” company and created a global brand. I just don’t understand why he feels the need to be an independent.
he's already getting more press and drawing more attention to his campaign than virtually any other candidate . . . if he declared as a Democrat he'd be getting less press than that Buttplug guy
what? just a standard term from wildlife ecology http://www.acoolthingilearnedtoday.com/bears-butt-plugs/
I'm all for it. There's been too much of the established political class (GOP and Dems) running things. If we keep electing the Clintons the Bushes and the Obamas of the world, how will anything change in Washington?
Without the creation of wealth, nothing else is possible. Want support for the arts? You need wealth creation for that support. I could go on.....
Couldn't agree more. There's too much of that type of knee-jerk response on this board. For example, why should we care about due process for Kavanagh? "He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, after all. To heck with him." Such sentiments are deplorable, for many reasons. Not the least of which is, if we strip one person of their rights, what makes someone (a Kavanagh critic, for example) think that they won't be next to be stripped of their rights?
Uh...it is clear to me. You made that long post to basically say you agree with what I said about why you and other democrats are so angry and then wondered why it isn't clear to me? The type of question reflected the same disdain for Schultz that the media had for Palin.
Probably because he's fine with the status quo in terms of economics and isn't fond of the economic populism that is becoming more popular with the Democratic base. He's a happy billionaire. Things worked out well for him so he thinks the system is fine. Hes going to run on "I'm cool with minorties and the LGBT people!" and that is basically the extent of his rhetoric besides "both sides aren't working for you".
I mean he could have just dialed up the anti trump rhetoric and mock Trump’s inherited business from his daddy and compared it to Starbucks.... Plenty of ways to get attention that doesn’t involve running as an independent.
As someone center left, he speaks to me. Frankly, I think being more moderate will do better against Trump. I think a moderate presidential candidate plus a progressive Vice President is the way to go. Bloomberg/Biden plus Warren. But that’s just my opinion.
What is worse is that Schultz is a result of left wing policies. He grew up in public housing and had a public education. He's the example of the American dream working thanks to left wing policies but you do not get the funding for these social policies out of thin air, we all know they come from higher taxes.
