I guess are main disagreement is over Phillips then. I have a hard time believing he intended to create peace. However he interpreted what was going on between the students and the BHI (and the videos show racist, homophobic and intimidating conduct from the BHI), it doesn't seem credible that walking up to the group that he may have believed to be in the wrong and banging a drum would have good results.

But, if you really believe those were Phillips' intentions, I can't really argue with you. Everyone's opinions are pretty baked in at this point.

Basically it comes down to a judgement of intent and that's always subjective. Philips had been beating his drum and chanting the whole time even before he was close to the students and there wasn't anything intimidating to what he was doing. It's hard to say he was behaving badly when all he was doing was walking around hitting a drum and chanting.

I think we have a honest disagreement, and who knows what he was really thinking. Let's just agree to disagree on this one.

Give me a time and place I'll come beat a drum in your face for 3 minutes and then you can say how you feel afterwards.

Are my choices (1) walk away from you or (2) make racist gestures towards you?

Does that matter? These weren't grade school kids. They were high school students. At least one was a senior in high school. But OK, lets say high school students don't know that making racist gestures towards someone is wrong. Where were the chaperones, the supposedly "responsible adults" when all this was happening? Were they closer to 16 or 60?

Also note that throughout I have posted that this was a lost learning opportunity for the covington students. *If* they didn't know making offensive gestures towards Mr. Phillips was wrong, the chaperones should have had them apologize and have the students and Mr. Phillips talk. They would have received a great life lesson and would have avoided this entire controversy.

btw, the question I was responding to was:

I answered. So what was your question again?

The setting and context matters. In a place where political demonstrations are common and expected, it's really not something to take offense at. If it was instead at a random bus stop and out of the blue someone showed up with a drum and started banging it, then yes I could understand taking issue with that.

Love the victim blaming you display. You are the type of person who is pushing more people into the hands of people like Trump.

"Victim blaming"? Which victim? And who am I "blaming"?

And trust me... people that think racist gestures are not offensive and wrong will support trump regardless of what I post...

Yeah you'd probably have to pay someone to be as wrong as he is all the time.

For him it's not about being right, it's about mindlessly pushing DNC propaganda hoping that there are people out there stupid enough to buy it.

lol, since when has beating a drum near to you turned into the equivalent of burning a cross or yelling racial epitaphs?

I've had much worse done to me on racial lines, and judging at how seriously you take this beating drum, sounds like you haven't. You're showing a bit of your privilege here.
