He hits UFA at the end of the 2020-2021 season. We are in the 2018-2019 season. That's effectively two years. NO could easily trade him at next year's deadline and probably get more.

If you trade him in the offseason or at the next deadline, the next team would still have enough time. Regardless, a team that thinks their close might take the risk anyway.......like OKC did with George who was "definitely" going to the Lakers.

Between tucker and gordon the pelicans would want both first, then tucker, then gordon. They would keep capela and trade tucker for picks since he holds more value. Tucker is built to play his game for years. If i am NO I take capela, 4 firsts, and whatever picks i can get for tucker or gordon. That will be a top 2-3 offer for sure. You have to get it in and hope they take it. At the least they hold on tomad longer and he loses value making it easier for teams outside of the lakers to get him.

His agent is Rich Paul, LeBron's agent and good friend. If anything his agent is steering him towards the Lakers.

What's Capela's ceiling in that scenario? Can Capela evolve into a franchise player? Or does he have the same potential/ceiling that is supposedly attached to Ball, Ingram, Tatum, etc. ? Again, I love the kid but when you have other teams that can offer quality + quantity (whereas our offer would be Capela plus picks in the high 20s) right away, it doesn't bode well for the team to acquire AD.

    Haha.

Yes he hits free agency before two NBA seasons from now. But any team that gets him is only guaranteed to have him for 1 full NBA season and the few months remaining of this one.
Nevermind all that. You honestly believe they could get more for him if they wait until next years trade deadline???? Where a team may only have him for a few months? Nevermind the drama they would have to ensue that season.

I promise you no one on here will agree with you that a package would be more enticing next trade deadline than this trade deadline. The only package that improves from today than the summer is Boston and that’s only because of Kyrie Irving - AD rule. But even waiting for that has its risks.

No, some teams want more than a single trade deadline to build around a franchise player who might bolt. Thats the best i can explain it and waiting that long will take some teams like the wizards out of the running knowing they cant proplerly build around davis during the offseason they will be left without their picks and their best player Beal. That is, unless they get davis to confirm he will re-sign with them....which he wont.

Their hope would be to convince free agents to sign, work the 2nd picks, and more time to make trades.

Agreed, I would argue that most teams view the majority of Capela's success as product of playing next to Harden.

He's going to LA or Boston, most likely LA. We don't have anything to offer and this isn't where he wants to be. The plan has been for him to get to LA all along. He hired the agent he hired to get to LA. Lebron has been publicly pushing him to LA. The Lakers have held back assets to make sure they could get him.

The absolute worst part of the NBA is how teams get sabotaged. Entire seasons get flushed while these star players work their way to specific teams.

That's not really relevant. I don't see how NO has ANY incentive to move Davis now and I'd be willing to bet that he will be on the roster after this year's trade deadline.

One thing is for sure, Lakers best offer will be in the next two weeks. They have to strike when the iron is hot. Can’t risk having Boston enter the sweepstakes this summer.

@amaru thats the incentive. Lakers are desperate. Can’t risk having Boston enter the sweepstakes.
At the same time New Orleans can’t risk having Davis’ camp try to sabotage teams’ offers in the summer.

Hopefully it works out the same way Dwight Howard to LA worked out.

I agree that some teams would be scared off.....but New Orleans only needs one trade partner.

We don't have enough sadly. Just hope he goes East.

I do not see the Warriors doing something crazy given they're currently on a big win streak.

He is a client of Klutch Sports, no pun intended. Rich P is like the founder.

I think we need to flip Gordon to a third team for an extra asset. If we did that, then I think we would trump the Lakers offer (I can see them not wanting to trade Kuzma).

The Pelicans can just wait this entire saga out and deal him to Boston in the summer. Why rush it...because his agent, the Lakers, and LeBron wants to see this happening? Demps knows what the Lakers have and are willing to deal. Alternatively, this just puts Ainge in a position to sweeten the deal after the season. Maybe he didn't want to include Tatum before but would be willing to do so now.

    Would you rather have:

    Kuzma, Ball and Ingram

    or

    Tatum, Smart and picks

    ?

Tatum is the best player out of that bunch and the picks Boston have at their disposal is a lot better than whatever picks the Lakers can come up with.
