Its not a bet. Its a guarantee, and its also a guarantee that Trump will shut down the government again the next time to pull the same authoritarian bull crap. 5.7 won't build a wall from Brownsville to San Diego. He'll be back for more and more and more and more.

Trump's not King George. The Democratic Congress cannot give in, and the media needs to do a better job of calling this what it is.

If it wouldn't...why on earth would Pelosi want to delay it?

I think you're stuck on sales, and ignoring politics...when everything politicians do is politics, and they aren't actually selling anything.

Agree on the first point, BUT that doesn't mean it isn't political, or effective.

Does Trump need to make a deal with her, or does she need to make a deal with him? That is the ultimate question here.

Mitch may not, but that doesn't mean it's irrelevant. It is the lever that Mitch uses: "I'm not going to waste the Senate's time debating bills that will never get the President's signature."

Trump abandons plans to give State of the Union in the House, says he will look for another site

President Donald Trump has abandoned his push to deliver the State of the Union address in the House chamber next week and says he will look for another location. "We'll do something in the alternative," he told reporters Wednesday.

Trump and aides have explored alternative venues, including cities around the country. Republican officials in Michigan and North Carolina have invited Trump to give his speech in their states.

It is increasingly difficult to see the two parties ever working together or compromising on anything lest the other side "win." I mean, it's been this partisan for awhile now but man, this is nasty stuff. It feels as if there is absolutely no room to work together or compromise.

Yes, I would be surprised. What has he done that is similar to that?

Please note, for those of you tracking the goalposts, @Os Trigonum is now treating it as a win when Trump doesn't get as owned by Pelosi as badly as he could have been owned, as determined by Nate Silver.

He's taking the blame for the shutdown, as he said he would, and should.

And now he's fuming because she's not letting him give a speech that nobody wants to hear, that won't help him anyway.

The SOTU flap is not going to help Pelosi, but it's definitely not going to help Trump. He's the petty and vindictive reason why people's lives are being destroyed right now, and being petty and vindictive about this doesn't hlep.

Trump is now going to relocate the SOTU to a location of his choosing, which will probably be a much bigger venue, which will almost assuredly be filled with his partisan followers. Many Democrats will boycott and this will turn into a must-see SOTU/Trump Rally, televised live on all the major networks.

This is going to be very bad for the Democrats and a precedent they will not want continued. The Democrats will in all probability be begging Trump to return to the House next year, where they can at least sit on their hands and act out in protest, and make the focus their spinmeisters in Congress and on television.

With the Democrats and the left boycotting and pouting, how are they going to do that effectively?

No, this is in all likelihood going to be an epic fully-televised political beatdown of the Democrats by Trump that they will have all but tapped out of before he ever stands up to speak.

We will almost assuredly be back in the the House next year, unless Trump just decides this was too much fun and cannot resist doing it again, regardless of whether Pelosi and the Democrats invite him back or not.

This will be interesting. Will people see it as simply another of trump's campaign rallies? Will the members of congress (republicans) attend? Will members of the cabinet? Will supreme court members attend?

If he was smart (OK, we all know the answer to that, but humor me), he'd either simply wait until the shutdown was over (and give himself a better story to tell) or simply put in writing. Otherwise he simply embarrasses himself. But trump is trump...

Weird as it may seem to you, he will probably not be seeking your counsel on what would be the smart thing for him to do here. Nor should he.
