I don't know if there is really much to think about. He's in the perfect situation for a player of his skill set and talent. He's playing with two of the greatest PGs of this generation and a Top 10 Center. The team has a hole at forward and he has the versatility to fill it. He was getting in a grove and helping the team win. The team happens to be his hometown. He was offered a 3-year partially guaranteed contract for 4M+. What's to think about? Let's do this and get to the play-offs, hell he could even wing a ring.

Ya know, this reminds me of that Luther Vandross song...

A bench is still a bench even when there's no one sittin' there
But a bench is not a House and a House is not at home
    When there's no contract yet
And no one there you can play at SF.

Are you gonna be, say you're gonna be
    Well, well, well, well
    Still in Houston.

    :p

Ryno had much more experience and NBA productivity/track record than House. Plus Ryno lucked out by being a FA during one of the weirdest offseasons.

Comparing Ryan Anderson to Danuel House is more than a bit of a stretch. Talk about apples to oranges.

Morey coveted Ryno for years, what NBA team covets House???

i agree... at this point (without returning to the lineup) I dont see him getting much more than a min offer from anybody - if that...

I dont think he anticipated Morey actually letting him cool his jets in the g league... honestly surprises me to... for all the talk of every game being important, going all in, maximizing our window, etc... I cant believe Morey is letting us go shorthanded (or play with a lesser rotation) just to try to tie this guy up for an extra couple years....

this whole situation is just disappointing on my levels from multiple angles... :(

If you had been failing to land your dream job for 3 years, and you were offered $1.4M/year to do it for three years, in your home town, would you take it? (The last offer was $4.2M guaranteed over 3 years).

Or would you have the guts to play this game:
    * 33% chance of getting $2M/year instead
    * 33% chance on making $1.3M doing the same job for a failing organization in Charlotte, North Carolina , Beijing, Phoenix, etc
    * 33% chance of working at Best Buy?

    Play your hand wisely!

Maybe if we were fully healthy and chasing #1 seed overall this gets resolved more quickly?

You really suck at this. 3 years is non-negotiable.

Morey is looking at a much larger picture than just House. That MLE money could become really critical at some point and we could find ourselves wishing we hadn't wasted it just because an undrafted journeyman held out on us. A GM is also in a hotseat with a lot of people expecting a lot of things and allowing a fringe guy to punk you at the negotiating table sets a bad precedent for future players/agents thinking about trying their luck at the same thing.

Sorry you are someone who hasn't cracked into the NBA having been cut by multiple teams and having no team pick you up on waivers just as recently as a few months back. To be offered $4.2MM in guaranteed money for 3 years and not take it is in his best interest? Are you kidding me?

There's no guarantee he'd get any kind of contract in the offseason - heck if his shooting drops the rest of the season he's still going to get paid. There's a risk that he doesn't get offered much this offseason.

I just find it hilarious that somehow he's getting a raw deal or it's not fair - $4.2MM guaranteed is definitely in his best interest to take.

If House doesn't sign, would you advocate making him an RFA this summer, and signing him to a vet minimum? Or let him walk?

Walk, if he doesn't sign. But I'm not Morey.

And House is not getting the full MLE, not from Rockets.

If he doesn't sign, would you advocate making him an RFA this summer, and still signing him to the same vet minimum deal he just rejected, or let him walk?

You mean you wouldn't sign him this summer to the same vet minimum he just rejected? Consider Morey loves trade assets at minimum salaries.

Again, I'm not Morey. You asked what I would do.

If you asked what Morey would do ....

If House sucks so bad that he's lucky to be in the NBA at all like some people are saying then just give him the one year deal and sign him to another minimum in the summer. Now if you're afraid that he'd get a bigger contract at the end of the year then that's proof he's worth more than the minimum. A 3 year min is as bad as it can get for a player. You almost never see it cause it's terrible from their perspective. Only the absolute borderline of borderline NBA players would take that and they'd only do it if they think they wouldn't be able to get a contract in 2 years time. I don't blame House at all for trying to squeeze a bit more. A few extra million mean a lot more to him than the Rockets.

So, you'd sign him now to the vet minimum contract if he caved. But if he caved in the summer, you wouldn't? Because you're mad at him? What would have changed skill-wise?

    Need and situation.

House is not the same commodity in offseason.
