I mean, to Don Lemons point, he is being totally disingenuous. Total numbers is a totally disingenuous way to look at the situation.

There are something like 100 million white men in this country.

It's estimated there are 3.5 million Muslims. So, 1.75 million Muslim men?

 

Aren't both total and per capita numbers relevant? You could recognize that an Islamist, on average, poses more risk for a violent outburst than a right-wing extremist, while also recognizing that since there are a lot more right-wing extremists it is a more pressing threat to the public at large.

 

As far as I can tell, Don Lemon, the man with one of the largest platforms in the country, didn't feel the need to explain and contextualize his somewhat sensationalist claim. Not to do so is disingenuous in the extreme.

 

Those who advocate using violence to create a theocracy based on a literal interpretation of a 7th century religious text are far right-wing extremists.

Also, for those not familiar with the post-hajj narrative of Malcolm X, like Jews, Italians, and Greeks -- Arabs, Turks, Albanians, Bosnians, Kosovans, Bulgarians, Persians, Berbers, Chechens, Circassians, Ingush, Azeris, and others from the Caucasus region (as in the area where the word "Caucasian" comes from) are in fact "white" by the standards of the US census.

In other words, the use of the term "white right-wing extremists" would, properly speaking, be inclusive of nearly all Islamists in the world, and presumably in the US, as long as you aren't including those whose ethnic origins are from South Asia or East Asia (who are "Asian"), and Sub-Saharan Africa (who are "Black or African American").

I would question any metric that doesn't make it very clear what specific populations it is defining -- and if I was expected to presume by any criteria other than the one I just explained, that expectation, if not that presumption, would certainly be racist.

I didn’t notice this thread until you necro-bumped it. It make me examine the original premise. Which, of course, is deeply flawed.

 

I searched on "domestic terrorism" and it was the thread that came up. I guess I should have started a new thread (though too many short threads it seems).

Seems a shame that something like this happens and folks "step over it" to argue old arguments.
