This is the biggest problem. It wrecks everything, including the defense. Too many players who just aren’t playing like professionals out there
I was thinking that same exact thought while watching the game last night. For a team that whose entire damn offense is built around the ability to make 3-point shots, we have a distinct lack of 3-point sharpshooters.
A good offense is the best defense sometimes. Forcing teams to take it out under the basket and go against a base defense instead of transition. Yeah, if the role players can't hit WIDE OPEN 3's. They are in trouble. Look, the Rockets blunt force the math with volume 3s. But they need to make a better percentage of them to take it to the next level. CP3 and House are capable shooters....when they are in the lineup.
Precisely! And right now, with the margin of error at zero, those things in the margins really add up.
That's the Milkhair approach: *clap clap* "C'mon, guys, try harder!" I suggest we find a few guys who can actually shoot the damn thing. Eric Gordon, our supposed ace 3-pt guy, is 166th all-time in career 3FG%. That ties him with Harrison Barnes(!) and puts him behind such illustrious 3-pt specialists as: Patrick Beverley Bostjan Nachbar Jordan Farmar Evan Fournier Jodie Meeks Scott Brooks Matt Maloney!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm a big EG fan during those games where he lights it up. The problem is that's like 1 out of 5 games these days. And I'm tired of seeing him blow layups and flail his arms like he's trying to fly. Time for Darnell Marley to find us a shooter or two. At least send a second rounder to Phoenix for Troy Daniels, who's barely playing there these days.
The system is doing what it should do- provide wide open high-efficiency shots. Sometimes they don't go down. If we hit league average or better from 3, we murder teams. We should keep doing what we've been doing. CP3 will come back, rested. So will Clint. Harden, CP3, Gordon, Rivers, Capela, Tucker plus whatever combination of Green, Ennis, Clark, House (please come back), Faried, Nene is needed = playoff success. Players in shooting slumps like Tucker and Gordon will progress to the mean. Come March, we'll be killing teams again. My only worry is Harden playing 40mins/game. When CP3 returns, that's over.
Shooters are streaky, when the 3's are not falling, they need to drive and get layups and or free throw line. They did not do that last night.
So did I. He was a top target for me in FA, but turns out we couldn't have afforded him. I figured he was an MLE type. Aside from a specific player like Harris, I HATE that the Rockets just never put true deadeye shooters on this team.
