No one will be though because the reality of the situation is...**** happens and there's someone on CNN probably yelling to run the story too so that they can be on top of whatever is trending on Twitter. They are not the master of news anymore, they can't sit on stories for an hour or else they'd be left behind. The competition for eyeballs is fierce. I doubt they thought much of this story to be honest, and there was already video.

It's not low standards it is just the reality of how news works today. That's why everytime we get a shooter we get people rushing to conclusions because everyone is rushing to be first to the story to break it. It sucks, but we as people should learn, all of us, to sit and 'wait' for the facts. If this was a mass shooting story my guess is they would have been a lot more careful rushing to conclusions. As is, they basically lifted the story off of Twitter and paid for that...but again, at least they, as a news organization, have changed the story to more accurately reflect what happened. That tells me they have a certain pride in being correct in the end.

    Phillips is definitely into tribalism.

He says that he thinks the boy purposely stood in his way. Let's suppose that's what he genuinely thought. At that point, yes he could have turned around or attempted to walk around the boy. Or he could have refused to change direction and wait it out until the boy decided to step aside and let him through. How he perceives the intentions of the boy would likely dictate which of those actions he takes.

By doing the latter, I guess I could see why someone who is predisposed to really disliking lefty peace activists would interpret that as him purposely trying to instigate a confrontation. Personally, I doubt very much he was hoping for a physical reaction. I tend to not look for ways to attribute malice unless the evidence for it is pretty clear. IMO, not the case here.

Being sloppy is not excusable. They are not on deadline and not trying to break it first. No legal excuse at this point. They will get cleaned out by settlements in court. Wanting to run it quickly is not the same as having to. You must do your work if your are a journalist or even an independent one, or you open yourself up to libel suits. This is basic journalism school stuff. Get both sides is a high school journalism lesson. You want so badly to be right, but you are not. Sorry.

So I was thinking about how to describe the situation yesterday and I thought of "stand your ground". That, of course made me think of George Zimmerman.

At that point I realized that half the country still thinks George Zimmerman was a hero and the other half still thinks he is a murderer. That was the point I realized that arguing this was hopeless.

If we aren't going to be able to work that out after all that time we won't get agreement here. That was when I decided to stop arguing the specifics.

I respect that you feel differently on this issue and that there is no way that is going to change.

You did not watch it. I can say that, or you are lying. The kid is standing still in one place. I bet you saw the cut version that doesn't show him wandering into the group and the kid standing there. Phillips walked into the group when he had a clear path. He is the problem maker. Accept it. Move on. Grow.

That's when Nathan Phillips decided to KEEP IT REAL and drum in the kid's face while his buddy yelled racist things at the kid.

Given that you are speaking out of ignorance, your opinion holds no weight. Educate yourself by watching the videos if you want to discuss things with people who know what they are talking about. Throwing ignorance against facts won't get you anywhere. No one is going to respect that you feel differently than what the video clearly shows.

Libel suits for what? Nathan Phillips was on CNN himself, they got the story from his side first...then got the story from the other.

All they did was report on the story and they managed to get both sides relay their side of the story on their website.

    Okay...

I think you are being more than a little bit overdramatic. Even in the worst case scenario that was being discussed, a short suspension, wouldn't ruin his life.

I'm told with modern medical science people who have been suspended one, two, or even three days from high school have gone on to live long, fruitful, happy lives.

I know you dont care, but the adage "spare the rod, spoil the child" comes to mind for me. I think you are causing more damage, but what I woild see as damaging to him, I imagine you see as virtue.

They did not watch the other videos. They likely watched the cut one from the initial story. I am done arguing with people too lazy or stubborn to watch the footage.

Half their arguments hinge on Phillips' account lol.

He was facing expulsion and he's getting death threats while his family is also receiving threats both physical and professional. The left wing mob was fully attacking this kid for doing literally nothing wrong.

Again, make this an innocent black kid who was facing 2 groups of racists and you'd have a completely different opinion. You can't hope to have anyone take you seriously while being so hypocritical.

In some ways I feel bad for them, they were fed fake news that hinged on the reports of lying racists and they feel the need to defend it with ignorance and hypocrisy. This kind of thing permanently ruins credibility.

They weren't kids and they were members of a racist and homophobic hate group.....is that really the hill you want to die on?

everything else aside, condemning the kid for nothing more than smirking/smiling is insane

that is a common defense mechanism when faced with confrontation, akin to nervous laughter

    plus, he's a kid

It is funny that we have people here attacking children and defending racists based on the color of their skin on MLK day.

suspended? you ass. He's getting death threats and having his face plastered everywhere as a racist. Try being a little bit honest.

What should they be 'applying the rod' for? what did he do wrong?

Here is what the SJW mob did when they wrongfully targeted a different kid they though was in the video:

they wrongfully start going after the colleges this kid plans to attend. ****ing insane and you talk about suspension.

When you watch both videos it does look like some of the Catholic kids were actually pretty poorly behaved but notably NOT the one who was just standing there with that smirk on his face. I really don't know what he was supposed to do.
