thanks for posting that. I honestly never saw the first post in this thread, but that tweet is gone now
It sometimes takes Twitter a while to fully delete Tweets to where no one at all can see them, perhaps that's why some could still see it for a while.
whoopsie . . . even the New York Times is backpedaling on this story https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/20/us/nathan-phillips-covington.html more at the link
Nope, it's good that these 'FAKE NEWS' organizations have the gumption to admit they were wrong on a story. It's what makes them a lot more credible than random blog memes and Breitbart.
Would have been better if they had done their homework first before demonizing the victim simply because they chose to believe the lies of activists instead of tracking down readily available footage of the event but yeah, admitting they were pushing fake news yet again is better than nothing. Many have still refused to do so
LOL, this has to be a shtick...if not damn man, you should probably see someone. That kind of hate can't be healthy.
How is it backpeddling? The facts are the students were on the steps and Rivers never went onto the steps. It was the students who came down and encircled him. He didn't go and beat his drum inches from his face, they came down off the steps and got that close to him.
Hopefully this incident, as well as the BuzzFeed debacle, will serve to open everybody's eyes that the media cannot always be trusted. Remember, they are there to get advertising dollars - and they'll do anything to get it.
Gather yourself, man. Wow. MAGA does not equal ISIS or Nazis. You know that. I guess your frustration is boiling over. What's got you bothered? The SCOTUS composition? The strong economy? Hillary not yet committing to run in 2020?
the NY Times even links to its own earlier misleading article in the second piece; the original article now includes the update: "Interviews and additional video footage have offered a fuller picture of what happened in this encounter, including the context that the Native American man approached the students amid broader tensions outside the Lincoln Memorial. Read the latest article here." Viral Video Shows Boys in ‘Make America Great Again’ Hats Surrounding Native Elder By Sarah Mervosh Jan. 19, 2019 Interviews and additional video footage have offered a fuller picture of what happened in this encounter, including the context that the Native American man approached the students amid broader tensions outside the Lincoln Memorial. Read the latest article here. They were Catholic high school students who came to Washington on a field trip to rally at the March for Life. He was a Native American veteran of the Vietnam War who was there to raise awareness at the Indigenous Peoples March. They intersected on Friday in an unsettling encounter outside the Lincoln Memorial — a throng of cheering and jeering high school boys, predominantly white and wearing “Make America Great Again” gear, surrounding a Native American elder. In video footage that was shared widely on social media, one boy, wearing the red hat that has become a signature of President Trump, stood directly in front of the elder, who stared impassively ahead while playing a ceremonial drum. Some boys in the group wore clothing associated with Covington Catholic High School, an all-male college preparatory school in Park Hills, Ky., near Cincinnati. The school had advertised that students would attend this year’s March for Life Rally, which took place in Washington on Friday. In a letter to parents, the trip was described as an opportunity for students to live out their faith and demonstrate in support of all life “born and unborn.” The episode was being investigated and the students could face punishment, up to and including expulsion, their school said in a statement on Saturday afternoon. In a statement, the Diocese of Covington and Covington Catholic High School condemned the behavior by the students and extended their “deepest apologies” to the elder, as well as to Native Americans in general. “This behavior is opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person,” the statement said. The school’s website and Facebook page were down as of Saturday afternoon. The encounter became the latest touchpoint for racial tensions in America, particularly under Mr. Trump, who has painted immigrants in broad strokes as rapists and drug dealers and recently mocked Senator Elizabeth Warren with a reference to Wounded Knee and Little Bighorn, sacred ground for Native Americans whose ancestors fought and died there. Across the country, Mr. Trump’s name — and his campaign for a wall on the southern border with Mexico — have been used to goad minorities, including by high school students at sporting events. more at the link
The updated NY TImes article still states that Philips was encircled by the boys. And all you have to do is watch the full video - the hour long one - or even the one you posted that clearly shows he stopped well short of the steps and no one was in front of him, and then the students encircled him - just ast the NY Times article you posted states. It's like you guys are just blind to basic facts.
You and tallanover specifically - it just boggles the mind how the narrative you have constructed is that philips walked up to that boys face and started beating a drum inches from his face.
