Wow... the anger and hate the usual suspects have towards the Native American Vietnam veteran. No wonder the teen was so intent on disrespecting Mr. Phillips instead of simply letting the man pass by. A simple allowing the man pass, or even an apology and teaching moment after the fact. But so much anger and hate.
Even in the video you posted, you can look at his feet. He stops about 10 feet away from them and then over time they close in on him, not the other way around, look att his feet and they are in the same spot on the same section (you can see the lines). He doesn't move towards them - they move towards him.
So, another conservative, even neoconservative source. Its a shame that simple right and wrong has become so political. I really wonder what would have happened if teens were wearing Beto caps and were mocking and laughing at pastors at a right to life march. Whether those kids got the "teens being teens" excuse?
That person your calling a liar is the one who took the video SMH man that that group of white supremacist were the ones that started this scene .Where is you proof that the black kids were saying these thing you have no proof fake news.
Exactly. Phillips is a Vietnam vet, but do you think those clutching pearls about him being "disrespected" by the group of kids for merely laughing at him for pushing his way into their group and playing a drum in their face while his buddies shouted racist rhetoric would have the same response if the kids were black? Obviously not, they wouldn't care about him being a Vietnam vet, they'd care more about him being in a racist group messing with kids who were minding their own business waiting for a bus.
once again the "conservative" label as if that's some sort of definitive conversation ender. These are teenagers from a Catholic high school, at a pro-life March for Life, being described by the editor of First Things. It is a shame that you see this as "simple right and wrong" that has "become so political."
Yeah.....and the footage of the event proves that they were lying.... It's funny that you are calling that group of kids "white supremacists" based solely on the color of their skin despite the fact that they were the only group present NOT spewing racist and homophobic rhetoric. If you actually watched the footage from the incident you'd realize the error of your ways. Also the "black kids" weren't kids, they were adults and they are members of a racist and homophobic hate group. Again, you couldn't be more wrong on this issue.
That doesn't excuse them from acting like children and accosting someone and then beginning to harass someone trying to bring peace.
like I said, I see teenagers acting like teenagers. That doesn't excuse the behavior obviously, but it does explain it--at least in part
by his actions. you don't walk up to someone and bang a drum in their face for peace. If your buddy is yelling racist things, you turn and tell him to 'shut up' if you want peace. This isn''t rocket science.
I backed out several times but I was essentially going to post the same at several points with the caveat is that what normally happens is the adults set them side and discuss the situation. What the kids did would normally be a teaching moment, but it has turned into an internet cultural proxy war that I think isn't particularly about the kids. I'm not sure that that culture war does anything remotely positive for the kids or the Native Americans no matter who wins. Losers all around.
The kids did nothing wrong so there's nothing to "teach" them, if anything they showed that they could keep their cool in the face of absolutely hateful racists who were verbally attacking them. I don't think just any group of high school students would have handled things this well.
