John Hinderaker apparently has watched a number of the videos as well and concludes: "If you paid attention to the news, you would think that the only noteworthy thing that happened at the March for Life was the Indian/teenager standoff. Yet it turned out that even that meagre story was mis-reported. Rod Dreher and Roger Kimball have the details. In fact, if you look at video of the entire encounter, what happened was that the Kentucky teenagers, while waiting for a bus in front of the Lincoln Memorial, were being harassed by a separate group of eccentrics. The kids were jumping up and down and chanting when the Native American activist, along with several supporters and a camera, approached them and waded into the Kentucky teenagers, beating on his drum. He got into the face of one of the teenagers and pounded his drum a few inches from the boy in what was obviously intended to be an intimidating manner. A few moments later, members of the first group jeered at the Kentucky kids, calling them 'faggots.' I have watched several videos of the incident, of varying lengths and shot from multiple perspectives, and haven’t see that the boys did anything wrong at all–certainly nothing warranting a news story." https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/01/whats-news.php
Yet another conservative blogger defending and excusing offensive behavior by the teenage boys towards the Native American. Read the tweet thread from the Jesuit priest. Then think about the triggered need to defend them. And why.
So, the bot has still yet to say what they did that was "offensive behavior".....did he not get talking points that were detailed enough? Is the bot malfunctioning?
Some random priest who made a knee jerk reaction based on the initial fake news report and who still hasn't done his homework when it comes to actually watching the videos of what happened making "ii true" type statements. Not really worth discussing honestly.
So the leader of the Native American protestors, Nathan Phillips, has lied on numerous occasions about what happened at the protest. He first stated he was approached and surrounded by the kids. That was a lie, demonstrated by video evidence. He then says that he was attempting to diffuse an argument between the boys and the Black Israelites. That is also a lie, demonstrated by video evidence. We know how the logic of @fchowd0311, @txtony, and @NewRoxFan works: white + male + red hat = guilty. Often times, one needs not have a red hat.
But you do know right-wing bloggers? Seems the priest is approaching this without the partisan anger of both sides... and instead, simply looking at what is right and wrong. Seems pretty clear to me. Apologies and forgiveness. I also like the importance of the "teaching moment". A dialog between students and Native Americans like a service trip to a local reservation. A positive outcome from this event.
you're the one dismissing an account because of your perception of "right-wing blogger" . . . . Hinderaker has never given me a reason to suspect that he is arguing in bad faith.
Nothing brings peace faster then getting up in someone's personal space and making loud noises while your buddy yells racist comments. Truly Phillips was just trying to finish his peace march. The priest is lying or wrong. Phillips wasn't trying to do a peace march. you don't drum inches from someone's face if you want peace.
and I honestly don't feel like watching TWO HOURS of videos of a bunch of lunatics screaming at each other to ferret out the "truth of what happened." In this case I am more than happy to try and sift through multiple accounts to figure out what the most LIKELY explanation is.
Has anyone in this thread explained to you what the main 'racist' kid did wrong besides smirking? You don't need to watch videos to ferret out who is misrepresenting the truth here.
I take it he was wearing that red hat. Also gather that some United States Congressperson wants to outlaw red hat wearing among our nation's youths. When red hats are outlawed only outlaws will wear red hats.
You don't really have to sit through 2 hours of it, the homophobic black supremacist group goes on for 2 hours, but most of it is just them yelling hateful things and people kind of laughing at them, the native group shows up pretty late on and don't hang around long after marching through the group and yelling racist rhetoric at them for a while. Honestly there's not much to see. 2 racist groups tried to incite a group of kids and failed.
OK... I simply introduced an non-partisan approach. I watched all the video clips posted on D&D. In my opinion, all showed offensive behavior to the Native American gentleman. Whether the schoolkids were yelling back and forth with another group acting inappropriately or not, whether Mr. Phillips was banging a drum or not, the teenagers from Covington acted offensively to Mr. Phillips. Getting back to one of the main points of Jesuit priest's tweets, I also wonder where and what the chaperones doing doing this? Taking Mr. Phillips out of the event, where were they when the students were shouting back and forth with the other people?
"Also gather" that another Congress person under the urging of the blotus wants to issue brown shirts to go along with the red hats.
Not a good look to counter something that actually happened by talking about something that didn't happen after 2 days in a row of far left groups getting caught pushing fake news. You guys have a pretty serious credibility problem right now.
So... the kid was "smirking" at the Native American gentleman. While other teenagers from the school were doing what in the background? Again, if my kids were caught disrespecting Native Americans, Hasidic Jews, Amish people, Buddhist people, or anyone else I would find that offensive.
