No chance. He’s only offering 3 years of DACA protection, not a permanent solution. The Supreme Court yesterday chose not to hear Trump’s DACA case, which means they are protected for the next year as is. This was not a serious offer. This was about getting on TV and spreading more fear and lies for his conned base of supporters.

    Serious question ...

If the House votes to impeach, does the Senate have to do anything?

No. The Senate has nothing to do with Impeachment.

That's kind of what I expected the extremist reaction to be, we'll see if the rational Democrats are in lock step with the extremists.

Doubt it. They seem to have drawn a line in the sand in regards to the wall.

If dems didn't care so much about the illegal vote they would go ahead and approve it. Have some confidence in your ability to find a suitable candidate for 2020. This proposal is more than fair for those who intentionally exploited the law of the country they remained in.

DACA is already safe for the next year. In 2020 the Dems could very well take the White House, and get a permanent DACA solution passed. So what Trump is really offering is 1 year of DACA protection for a permanent wall. DACA and TPS were both in place until Trump stripped them away when he came to office. So this is not at all a serious offer.

Of course it isn't, but it's also not something that could realistically happen - mass deportation of dreamers. The country doesn't have the resources.
Just like going through with the entire wall, it's purely symbolic and won't do anything to keep out those who exploit loopholes (majority of illegals).
The point is to end the shutdown or propose legislation that will actually curb illegal immigration, like ending birthright citizenship. Cheaper as well. The longer dems hold out, the longer it hurts them in their bid for 2020.

Conservatives keep saying this, but all the hard info I see says the opposite.

If Trrump wasn't concerned about his plunging numbers he wouldn't have put on this little bit of theater today to offer the same thing in a new package.

If extending the shutdown was in any way beneficial to him or hurt the Dems, I have no doubt the government would never start back up again.

The illegal vote is antithetical but great point.

Yeah I think so too. They can't even adequately explain why they supported 700 miles of border barriers but now adding 200 is "immoral"? It's just a weird situation.

I was stationed along the border for 5 years. Honestly I think a wall won’t help in a practical sense. These people are coming over looking for work and will continue to do so wall or not. Heavily fining employers of undocumented workers would be far more effective imho.

Illegal immigration benefits a lot businesses. A lot of these farms would be in trouble without Illegal Immigrants.

A lot of Trump's base wants someone to to blame. It used the Irish, Italians, Jews, etc. Now its the Mexicans.

I spent quite a long time in Fort Huachuca which is right at the border myself. I disagree that a border barrier wouldn't help though, when I was there they had nothing at all and there was an almost constant stream of illegals that would end up on the base lost as hell. Border Patrol would round them up, but it was quite the task with them crossing in many different places and being all spread out. Even the technology they used to track them didn't make it all that much easier given that there was nothing at all to slow them down on their way in.

Extend a legitimate border barrier to all of the places along the border that it makes sense to have one and it would make their job easier, if you did that plus going after anyone who would hire them, I think you'd start to get a handle on the problem.

    My solution is basically

    1. Secure the border with barriers everywhere it makes sense.
    2. Require something like E-verify and harshly punish ANY company caught hiring illegals no matter what.
    3. Require all new applicants for visas to have a US sponsor be it a US citizen or US company so that if they overstay their visa you have someone to punish for it, and punish them severely.

Those 3 things IMO would end the illegal immigration problem. If that causes a need for workers, set up a guest worker program with individuals or companies to go after if their people run off or otherwise violate the system.

One thing history and current polls show time and time again...whatever the issue, the president is always the first to be blamed. Trump will take this blame here just like a QB of a team or the best player on a basketball team. He's the leader...so...he should lead.

Slavery benefitted a lot of businesses and people said that a lot of farms would be in trouble without it.....doesn't mean it was a good thing or something that could continue.
