Australia has just sweltered through at least five of its 10 warmest days on record, authorities estimate.

Australia's extreme heat here to stay

Sounds like life is great if you’re a male baby turtle.

    Otherwise though.

If the temperature in Houston starts to hit 117 degrees on a regular basis, I'm moving to Alaska.

The article said it hit 117 in Sydney. No, that's nothing like Houston in August.

A bit of hyperbole on my part. But there are plenty of places where 108-112F or more is the norm in certain months. For example, just south of our own border.

I hear it's quite lovely there. Just don't get dragged away by the hawk-size mosquitos. :D (Yes, Alaska has mosquitos)

I think you are not understanding the reason this is news.

I'll sic my pet grizzly bear on them. Every Alaskan has one of those, right?

Well yes, I don't believe the global warming/climate change propaganda, which is a thinly veiled scheme for wealth transfer. So glad the Orange man shot that down.

No, not grizzly. Polar. But you have to learn how to ride it first. They also drink Coca-Cola. :D

Climate change on exhibit. I wish the Aussies all the luck in the world. It sounds like a really bad situation, one they have to hope is a fluke, but it likely isn't.

winter in Anchorage, Alaska is much milder than in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg,Regina or even Detroit and with summer humidity , it makes those places feel like Houston.

Queen Elizabeth will look 140 years old if she relocated to Australia

Lol, it's a massive conspiracy where everyday citizens demand their dollars go to this billionaire instead of that billionaire!

    But likely isn't?

You cannot get more concrete evidence, in addition to common sense, than what is already available.

At least they were upfront and honest about the tax cuts being a 5:1 cash grab for the mega rich.

No need to thinly veil anything.

You don't need to convince me of anything. Climate change has been coming down the pike for decades. The big increase in extreme weather was predicted long ago, as well. A fool should be able to see what is happening.

If there is a surprise, it is that the change in the world's climate and its impact is happening far faster than even climate change believers in the scientific community thought would occur. They are being caught off guard by just how quickly a whole variety of things are showing up. The Arctic literally melting. The huge Greenland ice pack shrinking. The quickening changes in Antarctica. Shrinking and disappearing glaciers in the Andes, the Alps, Kilimanjaro in Africa, parts of the Himalayas. More and larger hurricanes and typhoons, hitting in areas where they haven't been seen in generations. Extreme drought, as we see in Australia. All faster than previously expected by most climate scientists, in my opinion.

I once thought that this was a crisis that would be faced by our grandchildren, if our kids ever have any. Now it is clear, at least to me, that our kids, in their 20's, will be dealing with dramatic environmental changes brought on largely by climate change. It's yet another reason why the unadulterated fool in the White House is such a disaster, not only to our own country, but for the rest of the world. In my humble opinion.

What if the Gulf Stream stops? It could happen. The flood of fresh water from the Arctic and particularly Greenland could bring to a halt the mechanism that drives the Gulf Stream. It doesn't take much imagination to see what that could do, if it were to happen. Assuming folks have an imagination and know anything at all about the impact of the Gulf Stream on the climate of Europe.
