Danuel House has been ill advised. He had a starting position locked up, playing in prime light next to James Harden, potentially the best offensive player of all time, in the best offensive runs of all time. He could have build up his game and reputation. In a few years, he could land himself a Robert Covington contract $47M for 4 years.

Now no one knows if he can get his starting job back. Without playing next to James Harden, House may not be that good a player. There are tons of young talented players looking for a spot in the NBA.

There is the injury risk. He could get hurt in the g league and his stock would plummet.

Didn’t ennis average like 12 a game and shooting .380 from 3 as a starter before he got hurt and eventually benched?

His agents should have learned from the DMo fiasco. Don't hardball Morey. He always has options.

He was not on a GLeague deal when he went to waivers. He was on a 1 yr vet Min. Any team could have gotten him on that deal if picked up from waivers. Then after not being claimed, he was signed by the rox on a 2 Way.

Calling Morey an idiot when we don't know what House is asking for is idiotic.
    Because it's a stupid bet.

If he takes the guaranteed money and doesn't blow it on stupid crap, he's set for life. Then he plays a key role with a championship caliber team and gets the visibility needed to get a bigger contract at 28 years old. Also, if he gets injured short term, he's made his money with the guaranteed deal. All of this is certain if he takes the Rockets offer.

By declining, he's accepting a ton of unnecessary risk. If he gets injured he's screwed. If he doesn't get playing time at RGV he's screwed. If he doesn't perform at RGV he's screwed. If no one offers him a better deal down the road, he's screwed. Additionally, he's damaging his relationship with the one franchise that has actually given him a chance to play which seems pretty risky as well. What if this causes Morey to pull the trigger on a deal for a solid 3&D wing (Bazemore) and he never gets to start in the NBA again?

The smart thing to do is take the certain deal, build your brand value by playing in a system where you've had your first taste of success since college and leverage that into a better contract down the road. Common sense from the perspective of minimizing your risk.

House wants money, so it's a good decision. Clearly he can get a 1-year deal worth more than 1.7 million next year.

He loves to return after 10 days. When he is back, he want 1-year deal only so that he can be in a hot July market.

Les is smarter than Tilman. Les knows how to deal with players and their feeling.
Tilman is tagged with straight up money.

Nowaday it is a game of Tilman money vs players money

The "wasting his prime" argument is so stupid. Was Morey wasting his prime when he got the team to within one win of the Finals last year? Of course not.

You want to waste Harden's prime? Overpay roleplayers on long term contracts so that the team loses all roster flexibility.

When CP3, Gordon and Capela get back this is a championship caliber team with the flexibility to add and subtract key pieces. I have no idea how that is wasting Harden's prime.

    Understand both sides somewhat.
Would like to see a compromise.
Say the same 3yr $4 mil. contract but with a player option on the last year.
He would still have the same guarantee against injury/suckitude but be able to get a new contract in 2 years if he deserves it.
And we still get some guaranteed return on our investment.

Signing CP3 to a 4 year deal at 40m is wasting his prime.

"Since he’s out of NBA service time, he’ll need to go to G-League for a while. He’ll earn $544/day there (vs. a min of $8,546/day on a standard NBA contract). Rockets can recall him on 3/24."

Yikes... Back to that bean soup.

@Codman just said in another thread that there is a loophole in the 45 day deal that House has and to stay tuned...that he is friends with Harden and maybe this has a happier ending but they need to go through some motions.

    You had a prime?

    ;)

    Found the loophole.

    Or maybe????

    ----------------------------------

Do players on two-way contracts accrue Bird rights?

Yes. Players accrue Bird rights (toward free agency) while on two-way contracts, and they are subject to restricted free agency at the end of their contracts if they were called up by the parent NBA team for at least 15 days of the previous season.

Bird rights allow teams to go over the cap to retain certain players. While two-way contract players might not initially seem like a pivotal player to a team’s future success, a diamond in the rough could be discovered and these rights could certainly be beneficial. Think of a player like Jonathon Simmons for the San Antonio Spurs — when initially signed they likely did not expect him to morph into the amazing role player he is now. These benefits will come in handy for situations like this.

    ------------------------------

Thoughts? But that may mean he is locked for next year, just not this one? Can he be called up for playoffs?
