And this is the big risk for him. Someone could replace his contributions on the court and when he does come back...for the playoff run...he's completely out of the rotation. Then what? Another team may take a shot at him but he's giving up his opportunity to someone else. Right now. He was our starter. Night in and night out...and I don't think he was losing that job to anyone else this year if he continued to play. Just think about Beverly, he could take this same path... Bev also came here out of nowhere and signed a 3 year peanuts deal. During those three years though he made his name as a defender, a tough guard, and now teams will be more willing to be patient with him and he's now making 5 mil per year and he's safe. He's not getting cut and if he does another contending playoff team will sign him because of his name. House is a intern right now. He has a chance to make his name in the playoffs like Bev did...unless he completely falls out of the rotation and will only be known for the short hot stint he had with the Rockets. Then teams won't be patient with him. He's not a lotto pick, he's a guy that's been dropped from some teams.
I think there are 3 options A) James Nunnally plays great, he gets a 3 yr deal, and goodbye to House B) James Nunnally plays bad and Danuel House waits it out for 10 days and gets paid C) James Nunnally plays great and gets signed, Danuel House is signed I hope option C happens, The Rockets need a lot of depth at SF.
I think it was a mistake by House but I don’t begrudge him. He’s a grown man making a grown man decision. I’m more concerned about the Rockets moving forward though. Hopefully they find some type of production to replace those minutes.
Oh, you're claiming the amount of years at minimum matter. First, it's 2 yrs at true minimum, as the first year starts right now (prorated). He's giving up $500k this year (the 1st year), not $1.5m. The next 2yrs are $3m. Morey will offer him 2yrs at min, to not lose him to RFA. Aside from injury, tell me exactly what scenario exists where Morey wouldn't offer his RFA a minimum deal? Hell, Morey will probably offer him 120% above that, which is his max Non-Bird. Hell, I think the Qualifying Offfer is more than minimum...lulz.
If I am going to get paid twice as much, I would rather be an intern for a local court and not the Supreme Court. While being an intern for the Supreme Court sounds great, there are families and bills and the future to consider. House is 28 years old. He has maybe 5-6 years of professional basketball left before he has to retire and find a job where he likely doesn’t break $50,000 a year. If House takes the Rockets offer, he is 31-32 years old when the deal is done and has not made enough to guarantee his future finances. However if House can increase his earning by even 3-4 million over the next 3 years; he is in a far stronger financial situation.
Who is a comp for House? I picked Wesley Johnson. At a similar age, coming off a rookie deal after starting 148 games!! In 2013 he signed for 916k House has started 12 flipping games? I’m a little confused by the risk his agent is taking.
House is 25 years old, according to the wiki. Does that change your opinion on the intern analogy? I think if I were 25 or under I'd take the internship from the Supreme Court because I know it will offer me better opportunities in the future.
So u saying a good that was good in the nba cant be good in the g league lmao. He has tape on real nba player. Its a winning hand
I hope so too. I was hoping Ennis was a good defender, but he can't stay in front of his player and gambles way too much which puts him in further bad position. If we had a reliable defender that can hit 3's with Nunnally and House, that would be the perfect role players for this team
Anyone got a sparknotes for this 30 page thread? Whats this about 10days? If he waits 10 days he becomes a FA and ayone can sign him?
I am not claiming any of the above, but please my friend, continue to hitch on to false details that truly evade the point I am making. Things could be way worse for Danuel House, especially If he turns down 30+ mpg on a contending team, and falls into obscurity. The scenario is this: Danuel House will have more career earnings by A: *Continue to play 30+ mpg on a championship contending team, with Mike D'Antoni and James Harden, with a guaranteed contract. The spot he has carved for himself with hard work. Or B: Forfeiting his starting spot this season to enter RFA, after a year in the GLeague. Essentially, was the 12 games enough to have teams offer anything more than a training camp invite? I'm sorry. If it was me, I'd take the 1st Round Pick equivalent contract and the 30+ mpg that I would likely not get anywhere else, and ball my ass off for Mike D'Antoni.
After the 3 year contract, he would hit is prime at the age of 28 and thats assuming he sticks around. House would still be young enough to earn one more big contract. His agent is betting on the 25 games that he has played this season will earn him a deal double or triple the amount the Rockets are offering and IMO thats a huge gamble. 25 games isn't enough sample size to hope for that kind of offer. If I was House, I would ask for a Player Option at the end of year 2.
From a money perspective and long-term perspective, sure, the Rockets don’t lose. However, for this season, if one of Clark, Ennis or Nunnally doesn’t successfully fill House’s shoes, the Rockets have made themselves worse.
He could be the next whiteside or covington, flamed out on many teams until he figured it out on the court. He could be the next Jeremy Lin, gets his deal and returns to scrub form becuase he just got hot and lucky. He could stay with the Rockets and end up getting paid like parsons, but come crawling back after realizing he only looked good next to harden.
Same, I wouldn’t even need to get paid. And I’m a 30 year old attorney making a pretty decent comfortable living
House is worth 2 years, 3 mil. Up to 3.5 mil if he keeps fighting for a one year deal. I think he has the leverage. Most teams will give him a one year min deal this season, but he wont look good next to harden in a system with so much freedom.
The 3yr offer starts today. So, this summer a 2yr offer would cover the same remainder of the contract. Aside from injury, In what scenario will Morey not offer House the same minimum contract to prevent getting poached. Do you not think Morey will extend him a Qualifying Offer this someone to lock him in as an RFA? Do you think Morey will then not offer him a minimum deal? Do you think Morey will not match a 2yr minimum offer sheet, since it doesn't require an MLE to keep him? If he does, then House lost no money, and he's still with the Rockets.
