Morey would rather be in the bush than use his hand.

At some point players have to help out the team.

The Rockets are not even asking him to take a sacrifice...they are giving him more money then he's made in his career and a guaranteed contract at that.

I commend Morey for putting his foot down here. I'm tired of teams like the Warriors getting players to help work with the team for the team's sake but when it comes to the Rockets? It feels like we can't get a single player to go "Hmm yeah...I understand why you need me to take a little less..." and with House it is taking more! There's no guarantee that he'll be due a good contract anywhere else...if Dmo wasn't...what makes House think he will be?

I have to ask what does House expect to get on FA market? Especially now since he's not playing and he's taking a HUGE risk.

If the Rockets continue to win without him he'll be JAG, another body on the team...but if they had continued to win with him he sets himself up long term.

I'm betting the Rockets will continue to win without him...they have continued to win without Gordon, Capela, and CP3...House needs to make himself integral to the team like PJ Tucker and he doesn't do that by going down to the gleague and giving another guy a shot at his minutes...and remember...Gordon and CP3 are due back...there's a very good chance that the Rockets continue to roll and when he comes back he's just out of the rotation entirely...then what?

I see this playing out this way. Especially when hou is nearing the return of eg and cp3. the rotation gets a bit crowded. House is here regardless already. They have the opportunity to see how Nunnally looks right now and from there they can evaluate on all fronts who actually fits for the stretch run.

First, I agree that Capela got a fair deal from the Rockets. However, that wasn’t the point. The point is Morey is more than willing to let negotiations get contentious between the front office and the player to get the deal he wants. And in Capela’s case, being restricted took away his suitors because the Rockets made it clear they would match any offer. If I’m another GM, why waste my time and tie up my cap space on something unattainable, or offer a ridiculously inflated contract that will cripple my team’s finances in the future so the Rockets won’t match? Neither situation benefits me. If Capela was a UFA, he would’ve had other suitors, and he would’ve had to decide between the Rockets 5-year, 90 million deal and the other deals he received. Also, the Rockets would not have been able to slowplay negotiations like they did.

I would still convert House for depth, regardless of what Nunnally does. Wouldn't you? I mean, it would take Nunnally, Ennis and Clark ALL to suddenly play as well as House for me to think we have enough depth for the playoffs.

Don't be like most CFNet during pre-season who always rave about our great depth, in dream scenarios.

We ALWAYS overrate our depth, and we have a real NBA player sitting in the G-League right now. Nunnally isn't going to change the fact we can always use more depth.

How exactly did the rockets make it clear they would match any offer

House played pretty well with the Rockets. The minimum contract the Rockets offered will be there couple months from now, so I see why House would reject the offer.

If the Rockets struggle and cant find a replacement, they may go up on the money. If not, House will probably sign the deal before the playoffs.

It's a gamble for House because Houston could pull the the offer but I'm sure he can get a similar deal elsewhere after the season.

I'd bet that the Tillman never end up spending that MLE money that he's allegedly saving for the buyout market.

Come buyout time, he'd just say that "we didn't find anyone worth spending the money on" or pretend to chase a buyout guy with that money and fall short.

I probably would and I think he'll get converted down the road and become playoff eligible for depth purposes as well. I think atm since houston is actually down guys, this looks worse than it is and fans are worried about piling up all these losses and that will somehow knock the rockets out of the playoffs.

Risky move, Morey will regret it.

    Say . . .maybe around Feb 17th . . .. . .
    House will be signed

So, you're resorting to future speculation to make your Tilman cheap jokes, now that you understand the situation doesn't exist right now.

You sound waaayyy too happy to joke about imagined failures of Morey.

Don't be like J.R. and pessimistically revel in imagined future failures.

Sure, in an imaginary world where $6.6m gets us over on Golden State, and $6.8m gets us Danuel House for three years, it sounds great! :D

Truth be told, I don't accept the premise in either case. Knowing little to nothing about what Daryl Morey is looking at in the buyout market, I'm confused as to why you think the leftover MLE (6.6 million) is the right number to hang on to. It sounds good, but without the intel, it seems like we are NBA 2King some contracts together to have it both ways, when that might not in fact be the case (It usually isn't, ESPECIALLY before the trade deadline).

So players need to be completely loyal to their organization, but the organization doesn’t need to be as loyal to them? That doesn’t make sense. Also, if Morey leads with the three-year, fully-guaranteed offer and counters from there, a deal very well might have been struck.

In your profession, would you be alright with signing a contract offering what you believe to be a below-market salary for the next three years, with no ability to renegotiate based on performance? I wouldn’t.

Finally, it’s easy to blame the player in these situations. Because all the fan cares about is his team winning, and in his or her mind, the player should be willing to play in the NBA for free. But part of an NBA GM’s job is to understand how to deal with the personal side of business. Therefore, I don’t commend Morey for pissing someone off who has proven to be a valuable rotation piece in the past two months.

This is where I would join the 'Tilman is being cheap' crowd, if we don't use our MLE. If we finish the season without at least offering it to someone, whether it's a buyout guy or House, then I've seen enough evidence.

Well first of all what is "logical" about House and his agent getting upset at an inital offer? I already explained to you in a negotiation you start low or high and work your way up! If you look at Capela for example Rox started with 12 and they worked their way up to 18, that is how negotiations work. Capela was professional enough to deal with it how come not House? And lets be real House was out of the league when he got the 2 way contract, why would he be insulted at an unguaranteed initial offer? That's such a joke, who the F is House before he got signed? Oh man, he was out of the league 45 days ago but heaven forbid he gets an unguaranteed initial offer. Pretty sure salary in the GLeague is lower than in the NBA so not sure what "low salary" you are talking about. He already is given an offer comparable to somebody drafted in the 1st round, but ok undrafted player cut from 2 teams needs a better offer than 1st round money right?

No matter how much you ace the janitor interview you will still get janitor level offer not a CEO. Again Rivers has blown House out of the water how come he doesn't complain about his deal? He has played better than House but I guess he isn't buddy buddy woth Harden so he gets only vet min instead of the MLE.

Finally just because a dude is close with Harden (how close can you be in 45 days? Do you become blood brothers in 1 month) doesnt mean you pay him what he wants. That sends the wrong message to the team similar to how the Cavs overpaid Tristan Thompson and JR Smith. Are you saying what should determine a players salary is his closeness to James Harden and not his actual market value? What is logical about that?

This reminds me a lot of the whole Linsanity era. Evaluating Lin's value after a sequence of brilliance for a short period is hard. On the one hand, Houston and New York thought there was a ton of value there, on the other experience showed us it wasn't as much as we would have hoped. I like House, I think he provides a meaningful contribution to this team but there are so many factors that cloud his value. The shortness of his impact in terms of time and the Harden/NDA effect make it hard to diagnose this guy. I can see how the Rockets don't want to hogtie themselves here, and I can also see why House might want a better deal. He's shown some really great play, and ultimately is an injury away from being relegated back to the start. Morey talked about upping the Rockets risk profile, and this to me screams like a risky move. Not saying it isn't worth it, just risky.

House’s mother I believe or some family member is replying to people on Instagram saying the fans should tell the rockets to do right by him

Well, can you accept this premise ... we just lost a legitimate rotation player, who has outplayed Ennis and Clark.

Do you really feel like we should refuse to play him out of precedence to not convert a 2-way?
