he’s already shown that he can play and belongs in this league I’d hold out for the absolute best offer I could get too before settling for whatever is offered at the moment. The guy is already 25 and has made no money in this league. How seriously are people gonna take G-League performance over what he showed in the regular season?
Don't know but it could add a lot to the "Harden improvement" narrative if he doesn't dominate in the G-League.
has he though? His career is pretty unremarkable including being cut by multiple teams THIS year. He had a nice little run over a small sample here in Houston. The number of players who have good runs and then never amount to anything is pretty high. I don't blame him for wanting maximum leverage, but I think he's making a financial mistake. Look at guys who get stuck taking the minimum. I mean is someone really going to guarantee him a multi-year contract this offseason if he spends the rest of the year in the GLeague at more than the minimum? I don't see it really.
I know everyone memes about Tillman being cheap and broke but the reality is he signed off on Cp3 max extension and Lebron chasing and the Rox currently have the 6th highest payroll in the league. He is well above average in terms of paying $$$ so I think its unfair to say the only reason House didnt sign is because of tax lol. Rox offered 3 years guaranteed at higher than late first round money. That's a reasonable offer for House and what he is which is an undrafted journeyman who put up career numbers for half a season. Sure he is worth a lot more than vet min but you dont pay him what he is worth there is no value there. You like superstars because the max salary means they outperform their contract, same thing here at 6M House wont outperform hus contract he would be a negative. Tbh I think you are severely overrating House. Lets see how Nunnaly performs.
3 years guaranteed veteran's minimum contract. If he doesn't play again this year I just can't see someone offering him more than that. I would expect him to get minimum salary offers for next season.
I don’t think an offer like that is going anywhere tbh...I’d take my chances of seeing if I could do better before locking myself into a vet min deal for my age 25-28 seasons, especially if I just played at the level that he was playing at
That's 4 million dollars. Gary Clark was smart and took the money. If the season ended today and Clark were a free agent he wouldn't get contract offers after crashing back to Earth. That's what could face House. No one is giving him the MLE this offseason so he could be right back where he was this year, getting non-guaranteed deals, fighting for a roster spot, etc. Heck, even if he gets a guaranteed deal this offseason from someone, if he lands in the wrong situation he flames out of the league.
I’d definitely take my chances before locking myself into a vet min for 3 years see what I could get this summer on a long term deal...or take a 1 year deal this summer, play my ass off next season, and see what I could get the following summer...both of those sound like more appealing options than just settling for the vet min for the next 3 years if u ask me
No, we'll use the MLE on Rivers, like we tried to do with Luc. That is limited to $5.33m (estimated). Players can be paid with any exception available to them. On top of the Bird exceptions, they can be offered Vet Mins, BAE's, Room Exceptions and MLEs. RFA status or UFA status doesn't determine what they can be offered. RFA status just limits offer sheets to the highest exception available to the non-taxpaying incumbent teams...which is either a Full MLE or Full Bird...depending upon the player's tenure.
House showed way more than Clark tho...Clark been absolute garbage and never once approached House’s level of play...House was a legit productive player, Clark was just that young dude that CF was overhyping for a little while I’d still take the risk when we’re talking about the vet min for 3 years, I’d bet on myself if I just played like House
I like D House but I think he should take the money. Playing off Harden will make you look real good. He fits our system is playing well but I don't see that same thing playing out in Minny or Chicago and doubt many other teams would be offering up 3 years guaranteed
Wings who can play a modicum of defense and can hit 3's are some of the most valuable pieces in the league. House will absolutely get a look from a team this offseason. Maybe Harden made him way better than he is but he proved that he is an NBA player. I think it's a good gamble for him.
You say that as if it's a reason for House to sign a vet minimum, now. I mean, you're saying he's going to get paid no matter what, right? So he has nothing to lose. It's the smart play to reject a Vet Min, now, knowing you'll get it anyways. Consider this precedence that House's agent is using as a comp. Allonzo Trier got $7m for 2yrs just last month, after completing his 45 days.
It’s the 3 years that make a difference. He could have had amazing stats here for next couple of years and get a nice juicy contract after. Versus what he is doing, which u are partially right in that he will get a vet minimum deal but not sure if it will be 3 guaranteed years. It will probably be a one year min deal. Also it will be on some shitty team with limited playing time that will probably screw his price or chance for any future deals. Rockets organization and harden develop people and also make people seem like better than they are, history has shown that and I’m sure other teams see it, look at T-jones, DMo, Beverly, Josh Smith, Brewer (playoff heroics), chandler parsons, Omer Asik, on and on. U could even include Jeremy Lin, Gary Clark (who I love, but undrafted for a reason) ... etc Two years would be a good compromise but sounds like House doesn’t want that and he wants to be a free agent this offseason if he isn’t getting more money per year from rockets, which is dumb for reasons stated above. All he would have to do is finish this season then next season as possibly a starter for a top 3 team in the league and put up awesome stats like he has been doing, do u know how much more money he will get when he is a free agent after he finishes his contract with rockets? A lot more than the very slight possible chance he gets another half a million more this offseason finishing the season in G league. He better be scoring like 30+ in G league btw....shoot people work for free to be with great companies and get the exposure and experience to get paid a lot more money at their next job
You would hold out for an entire year? He is being offered nearly 5 million dollars, guaranteed over 3 years. That's 1st round draft pick money for a guy that has been bouncing around, and was lucky enough to land with the Rockets at the perfect time. Seems like a fair offer, and there is no other offer to hold out for, unless he sits out a year.
