What a rollercoaster with House. During summer league I thought, hmm, this guy looks intriguing, but it's summer league. After we cut him I thought, hmm, whatever, it was just summer league. After the Warriors picked him up I thought, hmm, that's nice, he'll get zero PT. After we picked him up I thought, hmm, that's weird. Another bench ornament. After he played really well I thought - wow... what? As his 2-way deadline I approached I thought, wow, it will be really nice to have this guy. As he declined his contract offer I thought.... life is weird.
he'll need to continue to improve though since after this year his remaining contract isn't 100% guaranteed.
At this point, Clark is hoping to do well enough in practice and when he gets a chance to play to justify keeping him next season. I get that. House, on the other hand, has proven what he can do in games not only as a rotation player off the bench (his expected role), but as a starter. My guess is that when his agent showed him Morey's 1st offer, he said something like, "He's got to be kidding!"
I actually think what both sides are doing is reasonable here. If you're on the extreme of one end or the other, I think you're viewing this incorrectly. From House's perspective, this is his one shot to get more than the minimum salary. I think it's likely that the offer for a 2 year minimum deal this summer being available this summer is high, so the downside risk is more limited than folks might think. He's played really well for a team with a lot of exposure. He rightly doesn't want to lock himself up through his prime (he is less likely to get a better contract at age 28 when teams don't see upside). From Morey's perspective, this is a small sample size player who bounced around the league for years. He's performing quite well, but he's playing next to one of the greatest offensive players of all time under one of the greatest offensive coaches of all time. Mike D'Antoni made Al Harrington, Kendall Marshall and Jeremy Lin some pretty good money, but all of those players had flaws that were hidden by the system. Better to see what you have in Clark and Nunnaly again, then revisit House if needed. Not to mention it could affect your ability to retain Rivers (and give me Rivers over House any day) I think the fact that this is so divisive indicates that there are pretty good arguments on both sides.
possibly. I still think he does have a bit more to show as far as being proven. In addition to the small sample size, I don't think we are noticing his inconsistencies as much as we should. This probably has a lot to do with him being a hometown kid and hes easy to root for. he's had some solid games with houston but hes also had a bunch of duds that haven't really been mentioned. I do get where both sides are coming from here. They have their reasons. At the end of the day clark is still a rocket and things will continue to unfold in the coming weeks as guys get back healthy and the team can evaluate who is best fit for the stretch run
If you think about it, though, right NOW House is considered an NBA starter. A fringe starter, for sure, but he's been starting for a very good team. If he accepted the Rox offer, he might have slid down the rotation once everyone's healthy again. He's not a sixth-man type, so if he drops out of the starting lineup, he might hit free agency later as just a good role player. His agent might be trying to capitalize on House's current status, which I think is a terrible lapse in judgement since most teams have pretty short memories. July is a long way away.
are we having a mind meld right now. Guy is spot on my thoughts exactly. Both sides did the right thing for them. Stop being homers people. House gonna get offers next year more then what houston offered he has quality tap3 against nba starter plus he left on a bang(people wanting more) he doesnt have any risk of looking worst. So jusy wait n cash in. Get ur money young man. Just like i said for ariza. 15 mil is 15 mil cant blame him. Nor house its a business. Cause all he wants is like a 5 mill 3 year guarantee atleast n this man would have done it. If im house n i g3t that i 4ode into the sunset even if i make no more money. Give me 15 mil in 3 years folks
Only takes one team. N people keep thinking he trying to get like alot alot money i think he just trying 5o get the most he can get for odds are his last contract..hell to him just 2 more mil a year n a guaranteed contract could be worth more to him than what the Rockets were offering
If you read this post closely, you probably will come away thinking we have plenty of MLE to give House right now, and still afford to outbid on buyouts later. The MLE was $3.9m on Jan 9th, prior to proration starting. It prorates down by $22,000 per day. Whereas Minimum Contracts prorate down every day of regular season -- 1/177 per day. (per @BimaThug) The separation in Vet Min proration vs MLE gives us a better shot at outbidding buyout offers, yet still give some MLE to House That was a week ago. As of today, if we sign House to $1m today (prorated, dipping into MLE), then we'll have $1.9m of pro-rated MLE left on March 1st. If we sign House today using MLE, his Vet Min is ~$717K. Let's say we give him $1m, of the prorated MLE, for 3yrs, to entice him to sign. $1m today equals $2.1m for whole year. (as there is only 84 days left to pay.) That is roughly a 3yr / $6.8m contract, using 8% raises. ($2.1m + $2.275m + $2.458m) That is nowhere close to the contract Alonzo Trier's 2yr / $7m got coming off a 2-way with no playoff exposure, but I assume Morey would make House actually enter RFA to get that. Here's the Vet Min scale (prorated). With $1.9m left after paying House above. That's at least $1.4m to outbid in real dollars...for 10+ yr vets. It is equivalent to paying them $6.5m over whole year.
If you want an Aggie you're gonna have to PAY for it, fam. This is why Fertitta's poor ass runs the Cougars instead of a REAL school.
We do have his Bird Rights...just the weakest one..."Non Bird", which is limited to 120% of previous salary. It's the same exception available to Rivers and what Luc had, too. But it's useless, because it's too low, when previous salary was the vet minimum.
no sweat, we were doing that math with Bima in previous House thread (that got locked). I just copied from there and re-calculated.
Morey has quitely constructed a very deep team. Not worried. House is broke....and will come to his senses soon. $400 a day compared to $8,500 dollars a day in the NBA.... he will be back very soon. Rockets will winning without him.
What happens to those offers if his performance is underwhelming back in the G league? I doubt this is finished yet, but House is taking a risk. It may be turn out to be a good bet for him or not.
Right. I knew there was the limit on Ennis’ and Melo’s contracts. Just figured it’s different for restricted free agents and mid-season buyout candidates. So if River’s contract is limited by this same exception, then we’re pretty much guaranteed to lose him if he’s looking for (and finds) anything north of about $2 mil?
