So far Raiden, Scorpion and Shao Kahn as DLC are the only confirmed characters and a lot more coming this thursday.

Any fans here? What you think about the graphics, looks etc? The look in the images is probably customised as customisation has been confirmed.

To me it’s the best it’s ever looked, especially Scorpion! Also Shao Kahn is finally a monster - looking at his feet, nails and spikes on his arm - and not a human with a helmet and armour.

As someone who has grown up around the entire Mortal Kombat franchise...

... it just looks like it's not fun any more. Like they've put so much focus on making it as violent and gory as possible that they've forgotten that it's supposed to be a fun game for kids.

From what I recall, that was the best part!

Except for now (just as everything else) technology has caught up to the quality and graphics of the game.

You're actually emphasizing my point though. In the old days, the game was fun and, although the graphic end was gory and violent, it was still fun in a campy, cartoonish kind of way. The campy, cartoonish part is gone and they've gone too far with the gore. The fun is missing.

    Get a few friends.
    Get a few drinks.
    Winning stays in.

    You'll find it fun again.

I think you’re just not a 13 ish year old experiencing Mortal Kombat for the first time. The meat of the game is relatively the same, it just doesn’t look like snes anymore.

You have to remember the context of, "back in the old days".

This game was going up against the likes of Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, and to a lesser extent (one of my personal favorites Killer Instinct). All these fighting games were, no pun intended, fighting for supremacy.

What made Mortal Kombat stand out from those others, was that they pushed the boundaries of what a child or teen could be subject to, in terms of violence and gore.

Grand Theft Auto is another perfect example of games that push the envelope when it comes to what is acceptable for children and/or young adults to be exposed to without being "damaged" or negatively influenced.

All in all, my friends and I enjoyed the game and how graphic it was overall. I mean once they added this in, we were all obsessed on trying to get our opponents to fall into the spike pit:

I agree about the over the top gore, more blood, more insane fatalities when I think sometimes less is more. Baraka's MK2 fatality where the opponent slides downs his blades as he looks at them is the perfect example of a well executed fatality. Now it's just seeing how far can we go. MKX was bloody and gory, now they've pushed it even further. You a re wrong about it ever being a fun game for kids though, it was never meant to be.

Here's a little-known tidbit of information: there is a special way of playing Mortal Kombat while eating a Whataburger taquito that completely changes the gameplay and makes it even more fun. Do this:

    1. Order a sausage taquito with cheese.
    2. When you get your order, ask for two packets of picante sauce.
    3. unwrap your taquito (but don't eat it yet).
    4. open a pack of picante sauce.
    5. throw the picante sauce into your mouth (don't swallow it yet)
    6. swish the picante sauce around in your mouth for a while (and nibble on the picante bits)
    7. swallow the picante sauce and immediately take a bite of taquito
    8. continue to eat half of the taquito normally
    9. Repeat this process with the 2nd packet of picante sauce for the rest of the taquito
