probably tortilla chips and cantina-style salsa. if the food at a tex-mex restaurant didn't arrive for 5 hours after ordering, i don't think i'd stop stuffing that **** down my throat for the full 5 hours

Had it. Chicken was good but the sides were pretty bland.

LOVE steamers and fried whole belly clams, but soft shell clams are my one and only (that I know of) food allergy. I can eat just a little, and my body kicks in to expunge itself of whatever it is it doesn't like. I'll get a fever, feel like I'm gonna die, and that stuff will explode out of both ends of my body until I'm empty. It's weird, because the next day I'll be craving them again. Needless to say, I avoid them at all costs now.......but I still get jealous watching others enjoy them. Fortunately, I can eat hard shell clams, so stuffed quahogs and clam chowder are always on the menu for me. It's fun to go clam digging too.

Favorite foods: too many and too varied to list, but fried chicken (simple one time dredge in flour with plenty of cajun seasoning, please--or better yet, that I made), Tom Kha Gai, REALLY good pho (the best I've had has NOT been in Houston), Bo Kho, bacon, a GOOD ribeye (preferably that I cooked), and a simple country style chicken soup (again that I made) always seem to be my biggest cravings.

I would argue that the chicken is bland too, but yet.....still consistently well executed. Kinda like going to grandma's house. It's like I'm eating it thinking how much better I could make it, but I'm still enjoying it.............I mean, who makes a salad with nothing but iceberg lettuce? Yet, I'm going back for seconds.

The green beans tasted like it came out of a can. I liked the chicken though because well, I like all fried chicken. I'm currently into spicy chicken like Korean Fried Chicken, Memphis style fried chicken, and T22 in Austin.

East Texas comfort food. Chicken fried steak, fried chicken, catfish different ways, smothered steak, fresh corn on the cob with lots of real butter, anything barbecued, jalapeño cornbread, jalapeño creamed spinach, fresh greens, fresh black eyed peas, spuds cooked every which way, and all the things I'm forgetting. Stuff like that. Both of my grandmothers owned diners during the Depression and were incredible cooks. My mother learned how to cook from them. Dad said she couldn't boil an egg when they got married. Boy, she sure figured it out.

Their sides are usually oversalted, but their chicken is usually pretty good whether it be fried or smoked. I actually like their smoked chicken more. For fried chicken, I'd rather go to Tennessee or something because I like chicken with a bit more flavor/spice.

I said brisket earlier for taste, but if I had only one food on a deserted island it would be lentils.

That sounds a lot like Hill Country comfort food.

I guess the one thing I do go back to, and request, every couple of months is chicken fried steak/venison with mashed potatoes, gravy and greens. Mine is good, but I can't quite cook it like my mom does.

Way too many other things to mention.
