Sure...there are areas they need to address but your doom and gloom post is waaaaaaayyyyyy too early.
So long as Houston is favored to win their division I don't think there's much room for fans to be upset. They're currently favored to win the West by about 10 games. The 4 best teams (Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Astros) are all currently projected to finish within 3 games of each other. If the Angels added Harper AND Machado, then Houston would be in jeopardy of losing their division, and they'd need to make a move. I do think if Harper ends up a Dodger and Machado goes to the Yankees, those 2 teams will become clearly better than Houston. But that can be addressed at the deadline if needed.
What a stupid post. We are fortunate as hell to have enjoyed a World Series title. An amazing World Series title at that, going through the top 3 payrolls and historical giants like the Red Sox, Yankees, and Dodgers. I STILL get goosebumps watching highlights, and I think that sensation will stay with me forever. Don't be a whiny tool that can't appreciate those facts. There are some amazing teams that never won it all, where the breaks simply didn't go their way. Entitled fans are the worst.
Being the "what have you done for me lately" fan doesn't make you sound interesting. It makes you sound uninformed. You're not uninformed. So stop trying to sound uninformed.
I don't think you get it. This is about a chain of events starting a decade ago that led to an unprecedented scale of tanking. Every GM would lick their chops at that opportunity and only nowhas it caught on (most of league tanking, 8 or so teams care about winning). Luhnow has more than had his share of goose eggs like Appel and Aiken (lucked in Breg), so even though he has the Moreyball followers wrapped around his fingers with the endless data crunching, he needs to show some killer instinct in the vital years before the extensions kick in.. and let's face it, 1 of correa or springer won't be back. You've got to overpay a bit the next 2 years, then you can play it tight with the wallet and enjoy the rewards of a loyal fan base coming back not expecting anything. 1 ws for all that tanking isn't enough, they were thoroughly outplayed by Boston and NY throughout the year.
Senator was the same guy that became conspicuously absent once people here challenged his inane argument that he could do better than 90% of the GMs and that Epstein was world class. Did you finally craft your counter argument?
Blah blah blah blah... Complaining about the only GM in this town to actually get it done and win a championship in recent times.... how rich. You do know the Geritt Cole trade didn't occur until January 13th last year? You do realize the season doesn't start until March 28th? Luhnow of all people in this town has earned the benefit of the doubt. Go tell Jim Crane how to spend his money. I'm sure he will be ultra receptive to your nonsense. And the fact that you brought up Shin Soo Choo as an option discredits anything further you have to say.
Putting @Senator on ignore in this Astros Forum helps make this the best Astros Forum on the internet.
...about when you made a new bbs moniker. I do not know who you were before, but you are every bit as ****ing insufferable as before, as you are, as you always will be.
I will never not "Like" a post containing clips from that WS run. I'm a simple man with simple tastes.
Jon Jay to CWS is an interesting signing. Jay and Machado are close friends, and CWS already signed Machado’s brother-in-law, Yonder Alonzo. Carry on.
Machado signing with the White Sox or Yankees is probably going to bait the Phillies into offering Harper $400M. Unless it’s all been posturing, Philadelphia has marketed their offseason very poorly; if they don’t get Machado or Harper their fans will revolt. Although for the same money they could just sign all the other good free agents, since Grandal, Pollock, Kimbrel, and Keuchel all fit their needs pretty well.
Eno Sarris posted a great article on the Athletic where he ranked which teams are in the best positions to spend this offseason. In his ranking, he looked at payroll numbers, past off-seasons, nerd stuff. Read the article if you have a chance, but his top 5 "contenders" in the best position to spend were, in order, MIN, CLE, TAM, PIT, and HOU. MIN is interesting to note because he speculated that Kuechel may make sense for MIN. Sarris noted that MIN has (6) position players under 27 who are better than league average, and that is generally a good indicator on it's own that a team is ready to compete. Based on their verge of competitiveness and ability to spend, maybe MIN is where DK lands...? DK on a young staff does make sense, which is one of the reasons I thought ATL would be a good fit as well. DK can play the mentor card which has a ton of value as well.
