    LoLHuh?

You are surprised that centers and guards aren’t required to have the same skill sets?

    Rockets 4th highest payroll
The luxury tax projection for the Rockers will drop from $16.3M to $13.7M, a savings of $2.6M after the Michael Carter-Williams trade to the Bulls. The Rockets will also create a $1.5M trade exception and now have an open roster spot.

The projected tax bill in Toronto now drops from $34.5M to $32.2M after the Lorenzo Brown waiver. Signed to a minimum contract in the offseason, Brown had $800K in guaranteed money. The roster in Toronto is now at 13 players.

I don't know how the cap works very well at all. Why is it better to trade him to Chicago and Chicago waive him instead of us just waiving him?

If we waived him, he’d still be on our payroll, and we’d still play lux tax... I think...

I wonder about the same question. Since the money is not guaranteed, if we waive him, his salary will not count in the CAP?

His partial salary would have been counted as dead cap money so it would have been included in the final tally I believe. By TRADING him, you're moving his "entire" salary cap figure to another team (the Bulls) and that dead cap space is counted against their cap room.

    Correct.

Bulls get cap hit. Rockets don't. Rockets cut the check and save 2.6 million luxury tax.

If Rockets waive him, Rockets cut the check, get cap hit and pay luxury tax.

I don't know if it was a mistake, there just weren't many options for that starting role until Danuel House emerged

I'm also another person who doesn't quite understand how the cap works but my question is why would the bulls (or any team) do a trade like this? I know they have the space but how does it help them in the long run? Wouldn't it be better for a rival team to let the rockets suffer in luxury tax so that they would have to think twice before signing someone?

From what has been published today, it's for monetary profit. The Rockets basically include cash to the transaction to more or less cancel out the hit MCW's contract will eventually cost the Bulls and they could realize gains down the road. Also, this gesture of "good will" is just another in a long lines of transactions that can benefit the Bulls with the player and/or the player's agent.
