Realmuto would come back in the picture if the price came down. He also would not cost a lot. I’ve never heard a single rumor about Nick.
If that was the case I think he’d already be gone. It would be easy to sell him if we were willing to eat cost.
Castellanos is being pushed hard by the tigers. I think he is a better option at DH / back up OF. Could clear a spot on the roster aswell. Martinez isnt being traded. CARDS have no reason to and have said as much. As far as Reddick I think it's both Money and Roster spot
Nick at 26 is a steal if he resigns and gets some where that is winning I would bet his numbers sky rocket. Js. To me White plays 1B. Get rid of yuli and Reddick. Make this team hole again.
There has been very little movement at all. It is highly likely that this team is set to go into spring training as is, barring a miracle deal for a starter. Lunhow has put his foot down on his prospects and will not budge so this team is set and will enter the regular season most likely as is currently constructed.
As he rightly should. We are a stacked team with a ton of depth. Other than sorting out who is off the roster in the OF, there is no real reason to HAVE to make any other move. As far as news goes, there has been nothing of significance, which of course does not stop us fans from keeping the forum alive with speculations.
Who has come off the board that Houston missed on? Eovaldi, Cruz, Happ, Morton, Ramos, Lynn...those guys were talked about as targets, but none were “if they don’t get him they’re screwed” types. The only big fish to sign was Corbin, and none of us ever expected him to come to Houston. There haven’t been any major trades of players the Astros were expected to target. They added Brantley, who was probably the best fit for their lineup of any position player other than Grandal and Harper. Half of the top free agents are still unsigned. Harper, Grandal, Keuchel, Marwin, Pollock, and loads of secondary players who could improve the roster. And all that ignores that Realmuto, and any available ToR SP have yet to be traded. It sucks having only 1 big move done this late into the offseason, but the team is already very good, and there are still tons of potential moves out there. In the meantime, our only choices are to let the board die, or speculate.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports free agent Dallas Keuchel turned to a five-year, $90 million offer from the Astros in 2016. That was a few years ago and a few years before he hit free agency, so the decision is interesting mostly just out of curiosity. Keuchel hasn't yet found a new team this winter, but Rosenthal surmises Keuchel still made the right choice, considering the $22.35 million he made in arbitration the past two seasons. The southpaw has been seeking a five-year deal this offseason, with the Phillies, Rangers, Angels and Brewers among the teams rumored to have some level of interest in the 31-year-old southpaw. ____________________________
It’s more like—Luhnow will continue to explore any help that makes sense via trade. I’d say that the likelihood we are done with FA is probably very strong. There just are not a lot of options that make sense both financially and functionally. Since trades go 2 ways, it’s hopeful that we bring in a SP, but it’s also possible we don’t find a trade partner before Spring Training.
The Astros are going to add a pitcher, that isn't really in doubt. Luhnow is shopping for impact help right now, but if a deal doesnt emerge he'll pick up a decent rotation guy.
Any speculation as to which ‘decent rotation guy’? Out of the remaining FA SP, most that don’t have significant age and/or injury issues would likely price beyond our desired threshold for a SP 4/5. I get the argument for inning eaters, but I think I’d prefer to start the year with James, Valdez and Peacock, than pay a guy to perform like Doug Fister.
