Good for him. Unbelievable that passed a resolution 100-0 without wall finding originally, but now McConnell probably won't even hold a vote.

3D Chess. You would get the strategy if you too had a very, very large brain.

Yeah, earlier he definitely could have done this, he could have humbled the promise and rationalized it and I think most people from both sides would have forgotten about it and filed it off as election rhetoric.

Right now though he's just digging a hole for himself. He has to give his supporters the wall now. Every time it looks like he might bend even a little bit on it they make it clear that it is the only thing they truly find important.

That seems to be what both sides are saying. Trump says he is willing to negotiate, but his negotiating isn't negotiating it's just haggling on price. I have heard of no concession he has offered in trade for the $5B. To be fair, neither have I heard the Democrats say they could be bought by some certain concession. Something like, "we'll give you the $5B to build a wall if you'll sign this law for a $12 minimum wage."

Btw, it's not about Republicans doing what Democrats want, just Trump. If Republicans wanted to spend $5B on the wall, they could have done it during lame duck. They didn't do that because they don't want the wall any more than the Democrats do.

Trump and the Republicans have repeatedly expressed a willingness to make concessions around DACA and a few other issues. The Democrats as usual have demonstrated a pure 'Our way or the highway' attitude. Well, the highway it is then.

I don't blame the Democrats for refusing DACA. Trump's negotiating ploy here was to take away something by executive order that Democrats already had and then offer to sell it back to them for some other concession. I wouldn't tolerate that either. I have not heard of any other concession offered or requested. Please link me if you know otherwise.

As for the highway, it's fine with me. This is Trump's mess he intentionally created so he can take hostages to coerce a coequal branch of government do his bidding. If the Democrats want to make a trade to get something they wouldn't be able to get otherwise, cool. But simply surrendering to stop Trump from hurting people isn't a viable option.

Not too long ago, Conservative were willing to shutdown the Gov over debt and spending.

Today, cult followers of Trump support him shutting down the Gov, unless they can spend $5B on something that their dear leader promised Mexico would pay for.

It's interesting that people seem to expect that the president should dictate the budget priorities and the legislature should jump in line.

The constitution is very clear thar the purse strings belong to the House.

Not specifically a Trump thing. The dynamic of presidental power over money and other things has been out of alignment with the original vision for a while.

The Wall is and continues to be a symbol of stupidity and hatred.

    No compromises, no wall.

"The president on Wednesday continued to advance false claims about where the wall money would come from and why it is needed.

He said the wall would be paid for by Mexico through savings to the United States under a new North American trade agreement. But the trade agreement has yet to be approved by Congress, and trade experts said such savings are uncertain.

He also wrote in a Twitter post that “Much of the Wall has already been fully renovated or built.” This is also not true. Some walls and fencing have been replaced during the Trump administration, but there is little evidence that new barriers have been established along the 2,000-mile border.

And in remarks to reporters during a televised Cabinet meeting, Trump estimated there are between 30 million and 35 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. That number is roughly triple the estimate his own Department of Homeland Security offered several weeks ago."

The President of the United States actually lies more often than he tells the truth.

Also, I don't understand why Donald Trump is asking for funding for the wall.

He has multiple times assured everyone that Mexico is paying for the wall.

So shouldn't he be talking to Mexican leaders to get the wall paid for?
