That's what I see him as too--a solid role player that adds depth. There's a reason why he went undrafted and is sorta blossoming on a team with no clear direction. He's already 29 so his ceiling isn't going to be significantly higher. I'd trade a couple of 2nds, max, for him but nothing more than that.
Holliday and Portis may be just rentals and Lopez might not see the floor unless Nene gets hurt. Holiday (UFA) Portis (RFA....probably getting offered more than Bulls and Houston want to match) Lopez expiring contract Might be worth two 1st’s and a 2nd rounder. (2019....2021) Get a 2nd rounder back for next year (as Bulls don’t have a 2nd rounder to offer this year). Championship is ours with depth and talent.
make it as easy as possible. top-20 protected First (2023) and Chriss/Melo for Justin Holiday. It's a good bid.
Sometimes I wonder if Morey is really interested in some of these guys or if he's just checking on their availability and their approximate value to their current organization so he can better understand how to fit them into a larger deal. Justin Holiday made sense to me before Austin Rivers. But now that we have him a guard rotation of Harden, CP3, Gordon and Rivers is pretty ridiculous. Don't know that we really need added depth there. What I would take is a 3 and D power forward or even a small forward with the size to play small ball power forward/center at times. Marvin Williams would be nice. Ryan Anderson sucked but we do miss his floor spacing ability.
Just my opinion is Rockets have righted the ship and don’t want to make a trade right now since House, Green and Rivers are playing well. This plus knowing Ennis is close to coming back followed by Gordon/CP3. Testing the waters now to see the asking price on players in order to get an idea of the asking price at the trading deadline. Guesstimating if a team becomes more desperate or less desperate......and what the price may become. Team might become a bigger seller or buyer, depending on win-loss records....seedings. 2019/2021 first round picks don’t mean as much to me since: *Gary Clark was undrafted and will develop into a rotation player by next year. *House is undrafted and should be a rotational player now and probably improve by next year. *Hartenstein should take another step towards becoming consistent and improve well enough to make deep NBA roster depth by next year. *Vince Edwards is expected to make a move towards making the roster in the near future. I don’t think he will ever be more than G-leaguer......but the Rockets brass know more than me. All he has to do is be a 3 & D guy. Might be achievable since he is not bad at 3’s. And finally, probably to your disappointment, MCW non guaranteed contract may be wiped out to make room for either House or Bruno Caboclo contract. Moving Melo will make room for the other. The need to move Chriss/Knight/Melo/MCW takes precedent over all else (except winning of course)......so the Rockets can be a player this summer in free agency. If it takes 2 first rounders....then so be it. Rockets may be at their quota on young athletic talent. Rockets would still have their 2020 first rounder and any 2nd rounders. ......plus any undrafted gems they might find. Just my opinion. Take care.
hes trying to be holic but is worse bc he doesnt even make any sense whatsoever. someone needs to ban him from all his dumb threads being started
Lol just as I called it--two 2nds is the ceiling. I don't think this is a terrible loss or missed opportunity though.
Bummer. Wanted Holiday, but we can't really beat that offer since we don't have our 2019 or 2020 2nd round picks. We clearly didn't want to offer a 1st, so that's that.
Morey strikes out yet again. Why am I not surprised? Overhyped GMs should be capable of grabbing some solid players in trades rather than just the surprise pick-ups every year.
