LOL did you actually read that though? I said that's why HE has to get it done, not why I (along with 89% of Border Patrol) think it's a good idea. I know that to you it is as simple as "Orange man wants it? ORANGE MAN BAD!!!!", but not everyone has that type of viewpoint.

When I've asked why a border wall would be harmful, all I've gotten in response is some nonsense about animal migration, some talk about how the border wall is "ethnic cleansing", and talk about the price tag from people that have no problem throwing hundreds of billions of dollars in the trash can in a foolish attempt to redistribute wealth.

Sorry but none of that is convincing.

It would be the kind of "read my lips" moment that would turn his base against him. There are plenty of promises and rhetoric that his base will ignore, but when he doubled down on the wall saying that he'd never sign another funding bill that didn't include border wall money, he committed himself to doing whatever it takes. There's only a few things he has to not screw up to please his base, nominate conservative justices to the SCOTUS and try to secure the southern border are by far the 2 most important.

Border wall won’t do anything to prevent crossings. It’d be a waste of money but the reality is that it’s an expensive nonsolution to a complex problem specifically to line the pockets of the wealthy folk who are in line to receive the contracts for it.

Kinda like football stadiums. Totally unnecessary construction projects derived from tapping into the emotional weaknesses of millions of easily controlled people.

 

We just need more good guys crossing the boarder. That'll solve it

 

I'm willing to accept the possibility that a physical border won't prevent crossings but it certainly wouldn't hurt anything. It's like Houston having retractable roof stadiums, do we ever really use them? No, not really, but it didn't hurt anything by building them.

When 89% of Border Patrol disagree with you and suggest that a border wall is absolutely necessary for them to properly do their jobs, I just don't see the harm in it. Worst case scenario it is 70 billion (the highest estimate) put back into the pockets of the US companies and employees who would build it.

 

89% of the Border Patrol UNION, as in the GED graduate trigger pullers and patrolmen. They are no subject matter experts.

It's like asking a bunch of E-3 enlisted Marines what we should do about Muslim immigration and the Iran nuclear deal .

 

The military can't be the only catch all for poor and ignorant of this country, we need to cut back on the military spending big time and institute a civics program where people can build infastructure - we don't need to be fighting needless wars to continue to line republicans pockets.
