Lol. Well, I think we’re on the same page about Lugo. I just don’t want to get raped for him like u are willing to oblige.
The Astros would not give their draft pick to the Dodgers to sign Grandal. While they would lose a draft pick, the Dodgers would not receive it. LA would receive a compensatory pick.
I know how draft compensation works. I still don’t want to be the one that indirectly gives the Dodgers the comp pick.
If you're signing a guy with a QO tied to him, I seriously doubt it matters *who* that pick is going to vs is *he* worth giving it up for?
Agree with that too. Grandal isn’t worth 60+ million and the loss of a pick. Nor do I want the Astros to give up their pick for the benefit of the Dodgers.
Fine with Chirinos as catcher. 18 homeruns in 360 ab’s is very impressive for any position player, exceptional production from a catcher. Realmuto hit 21 with 100+ more AB’s. If he raises his average .030-.40 points he’s a strong consideration in the ASG. Brantley, A Starter, EE or Jose Martinez, maybe Seth Lugo, Chirinos, Diaz would be a nice offseason with Altuve and Correa back at 100%
Dodgers are likely bidding about 20-30 million less than Grandal is worth to them. Either someone outbids them and the Dodgers get a pick after the 2nd round or Dodgers get an MLB player at a 20-30 million dollar discount. Dodgers get a benefit either way and they may prefer cheap Grandal over unknown of a pick. Only question is whether cost of Grandal is worth losing the pick for the Astros.
Already stated that I don’t feel paying 20 mil for 2 catchers is a smart investment of our $. Loss of pick on top of that is no bueno. Helping the dodgers in any way is no bueno. Conceding a pick from our uber-talented FO is no beuno. Let the Dodgers pay for him so they don’t compete with us against Realmuto.
If Astros don't bid on Grandal, it helps the Dodgers. Other reasons are valid to a certain point. Astros only true concern is does this help Astros.
On the Astros homepage, McTaggert posted an article covering our 3 targeted areas of focus remaining: starting pitcher, catcher (maybe—basically we either get J.T. or we stick with Chirinos/Stassi), DH. I found it particularly interesting that McTaggert said that IF we don’t find a match for DH, we could use a tandem of Brantley, Diaz and Gurriel to fill the spot. He even mentioned Altuve and Springer getting some DH relief too. What stood out: No mention of White at all.
Following up with my last post—does this mean McTaggert views White as our primary 1B, Gurriel as the DH/super IF util, Diaz as the DH/OF4? If so, that suggests that there is no room for Jake or Tony. Or does this mean that McTaggert views White as gone?
I think they want White at 1B. But I wouldnt be surprised if his name is involved with trade talks. No one really knows
