The biggest reason is simply that ESPN makes money on these games. They're relatively cheap to put on TV, and there are a pretty decent number of eyeballs on them because folks are off work and home for the holidays while most of these games are on. It's not a coincidence that there used to be more bowl games on other networks, and now, all but a handful are on the ESPN family of networks. They bought out just about all of the inventory because it works for them.

Beyond that, there's demand for them from the college football programs themselves. The schools know that many of these games are not well attended, and that every once in a while, a team loses money on the deal, but they don't have to accept a bowl bid to one of the lower-tier bowls if they don't think the pros outweigh the cons. And while the bowls did have to turn to some 5-7 teams a few years ago to fill the bowl slots, that was because some teams were banned from bowls and there weren't enough eligible 6-6 teams, not that there weren't enough teams interested.

My biggest argument in favor of the bowls, though, is why not? Why would anyone want less college football, especially at this time of year, when there's so little left? And none of the principal actors seem interested in cutting down on them. ESPN wants as many live games as possible, the schools want their teams to compete in them, and the players seem to have a good time with them.

Extra money for the schools who participate
And a chance to showcase their program for recruiting
Another game for the fans to enjoy

Auburn is beating Purdue 63-7 early in the 3rd. It looks like our record breaking whooping by Army may be in jeopardy.

Applegate/UH record of worst loss ever is still in infamy. I guess Auburn decided to take the foot off the pedal in the 2nd half. Both teams only scored once in the 2nd half and final score Auburn 63 Purdue 14.

    It's fine.

But as a scout Rudy, you should know these things. ;)

    But really, it's fine. :)

He had surgery on his throwing hand a month before their bowl game last year. Holgorson was fine with him not playing since he had already said he was coming back for his Sr year.

This year or last? I was just talking about last year, and I don't remember anything about that game.

I don't see how the ND offense can score more than 20 on Clemson. Catholics vs Carolina Aggies? I guess I'm rooting for Clemson.
