Sorry dude but all those reasons are ****ing stupid. Maybe his wife prefers the cold? Hahahahahahaha.
Me too. Cruz kills flexibility. Brantley, Diaz/Gurriel, White, Chirinos (if we trade for Realmuto) can all be occasional DH’s. We don’t need another Gattis
Yup. And I expect Cruz to be available at the deadline. Twins should be rebuilding. Yankees/Redsox will take one wild card and Tampa will be the favorite for the 2nd wild card with Angels/A's behind them.
Eh - WC contenders come out of nowhere every year. At this time last year, if you said Tampa or Oakland would be WC contenders, people would have laughed. All those kinds of teams are up and down - we have no idea what any of them will do next year.
I think people are missing the larger argument, which is that that players make non-financial decisions all the time. We don't really know why he picked the Twins over his other options, and we don't know what the Astros may have offered.
I have a feeling he'll land in LAD for some combination including Verdugo, with LAD landing Realmuto as well
Occam’s razor. The overwhelmingly most likely scenario was that Houston did not offer as much money as Minnesota.
Most likely scenario? Sure - the majority of players tend to pick the largest contract. Overwhelmingly more likely? Not really - players do factor in lots of other things in their decisions all the time. Even more true of older players who've already had a big contract. A few million dollars at that point is not as big a deal.
I agree. For now I think LA gets both Realmuto and Harper. Going to be an insanely talented roster, possibly the best of all time. If the NL West shakes out the way it looks like it will, they could easily win 110 games, and with a little luck break the all time record.
I guess you’re asking to define “overwhelming”. What % of free agents take the most money? 60%? 80%? 99%? I think at least 90% go for the money. And in cases where they don’t take the money, the overwhelming majority of those go where they think they can win a ring. So in Cruz’s case that’s even more reason to believe he took the money, since Houston would have represented a much better chance to win.
