He's not blacklisted. But I bet teams are naturally wary. He still has opportunities to get this team better.free agency was a **** show. How are we not doing our diligence on Jeff Green, Mike Scott, Noah Vonleh, etc. We're picking up MCW? Really I'm also out on this Ryan Anderson trade until we know what Chriss and Knight land us. Right now, we gave up big man help for non rotational players.
He could have let our draft picks expire each year, and he would still be a god after the harden trade. GAWD.
I respectfully disagree. Morey has been regarded as a Top 5 GM every year spanning over a decade now. He’s never had a losing season. We've missed the playoffs only 3 times during his time here. He not only engineered the necessary prerequisite moves to put us in position but actually pulled off arguably the biggest robbery in the history of all NBA trades and it’s still fresh. As if that wasn’t enough to grab the attention of the other 29 GM’s we gave up a poo-poo platter for CP3. Other GM’s don’t have to necessarily think Morey is an “all-knowing, evil genius that they avoid” but maybe they should and I think most do by now. I know If my phone rings and it’s Morey on the other line I have my blinders up and I’m proceeding with caution. I’d also know better than to call Morey and end up “expecting to win.” Fact of the matter is Morey is superior to the vast majority of his colleagues. If they don’t want to admit that or they’re too oblivious to realize that then that’s their prerogative. If any Rockets fan doesn’t realize that then you’re definitely taking him for granted. Since Morey has been GM how much turnover has there been around the league amongst GM’s/Upper management? It’s hard to become 1 of 30 GM’s like you said but it’s even harder to remain a GM and perform at a high level year in and year out. We didnt become a contender by Morey not taking advantage of lesser GM’s.
Announce publicly, Morey has been fired. Hire CF poster to be GM. Have Morey tell poster what to say to other GMs for trade. Success!
Ummmm....you mean the core of players that are currently ahead of us in the standings? THAT Poo Poo Platter?
You could be the biggest jerk off GM in the league and have screwed over every front office employee of every team.... But if you have something that GM’s want, that doesn’t matter. They will call you and try to make deals. There’s no such thing as black listed as a GM. There’s only GM’s who don’t have anything other GM’s want. Right now, yeah... Morey probably doesn’t have his phone ringing off the hook. Has nothing to do with him, and everything to do with enticing assets and players available to trade for. Edit: I take that back slightly. If I was another GM, and knowing Moreys track record these past few years, I would be trying to shop role players that might be expendable for our first rounder/rounders. Knowing how the Rockets window is closing every day CP3 gets a bit older, Rockets future firsts have some potential upside value.
This fleecing wasn't really as much of a fleecing as you give Morey credit for. The Clippers decided to play ball when CP3 ultimately decided that he was going to sign with us regardless of what they did. We gave up what we did to make salaries match and have CP opt-in to his PO rather than having to maneuver cap space in order to sign him. This is the same as saying the Heat fleeced the Cavs for Lebron when he ultimately stated on national television that he was taking his talents to South Beach. Harden has been by far his best trade in terms of return value. You tell me how many teams he robbed from 2010-2017 when the CP3 trade took place. I'm not even going back to the '07 year in which he started as our GM, just the past 7. https://www.basketball-reference.com/executives/moreyda99x.html People will play ball if you have assets that they like. At this point our assets pool has shrunk by a large margin, which is making it that much difficult to find trade partners for Morey.
I'm not saying Morey isn't good at his job, nor am I saying that I think of him as equal to his colleagues. I know he's in the top tier of GMs right now in ALL of sports. What I'm saying is that the other 29 NBA GMs don't avoid dealing with him, or automatically send him to voice mail when he calls. Every GM that's worth his salt has made good deals that he can point to, just like every GM that's worth his salt can point to a deal where he got fleeced. It comes with the job. The ultimate factor in all of this is what kind of resources you have at your disposal. Right now, the Lakers are in the middle of every rumor because they've got a variety of young talent that's desired by most other teams in the league. The reason the Rockets aren't involved in much is because they have nothing to offer other teams. The other 29 GMs aren't dealing with Morey, but it's not because they're scared.....it's because our roster is low on talent.
Exactly, this is a ridiculous topic. The Suns won that trade, and the Clippers were going to get nothing for CP3, instead they have solid pieces. One of those pieces tends to destroy us every time we see him, if anything Morey looks foolish everytime Trez steps on the court against the Rockets. One of the key pieces in the trade for Jimmy Butler was a player we let walk. Morey is a great GM, but he does not win every trade to the point no one wants to deal with him.
I am was on the yes we did side BEFORE the trade happened. It was obvious. Now if we could have kept MontrezL maybe it would have been worth but still probably not.
Yeah. Keeping one player from that group or holding on to that first should have been possible. Trez or our first could have helped out in a few different ways.
To other gms Morey rn is looking like an Arab merchandiser selling mini pyramids worth 5cents that he got from Asia but the asking price for tourists is 30$. They got tired of Chriss&Knight for Jimmy type of offers and just stopped listening at this point
