The Nets are definitely getting better! Too bad Lin couldn't stay healthy when he was there...could have been part of their growth...

    They traded him on purpose
They are a better team without him

They had their big win streak without Caris LeVert...I guess they are better without him, too?

Obviously not...he's a great young player (and actually my 2nd favorite player on the team behind Jarrett Allen). But he's out with a major injury...not as serious as a ruptured patella, so hope he'll bounce back relatively quickly.

Super-surprised that the Hawks put Lin in to close out tonight's game vs. the Pistons. I actually felt like Trae Young has been showing signs of improvement, and with the Hawks not really caring about winning, thought they'd leave him in to try to hold on to win. But Lin came in and closed things out for a good win...

He certainly could help them win more if they’d play him more.

He could help them if he’s not injured all the time
But he can also help them get the number one pick since when he leads them in scoring this season they get blown out
    He’s definitely not starting there

Yup, he's definitely not starting there...Hawks committed to starting Trae for development regardless of who plays better. He's missed 2 games for injury, so that hasn't really been a factor this season. But they let him close out the game yesterday against the Pistons, so maybe things are changing.

He’s got plenty of minutes during the year
It’s a small victory they won but I’m pretty sure they are getting a high draft pick

He's getting a career-low for minutes per game (18mpg, well below his 26mpg career average), and much of it has come in garbage time (not anyone's fault really other than sometimes being down by 20+ in the first quarter before he even gets a chance to be subbed in). Very surprised they had him in twice recently to close out close games. Will see if that is a trend or not.

And yes, the Hawks will likely get a high lottery pick. I don't hold any animosity towards their coach or organization for putting player development over wins this season..it's what they need to do. I might disagree with how they are developing Trae, but that's a different discussion. It definitely sucks for Lin, because Lin is good enough to be a meaningful contributor on a playoff-calibre team so this season is kind of a waste for him...but I guess it's also good because it will give him a pressure-free time to fully heal his patella.

Hopefully the Hawks can trade him and get something worthwhile for their rebuild and Lin gets an opportunity to go to a team to play a bigger role. Or...I wouldn't even mind if the Hawks decided to give him a 3-year contract (as long as they are committed to winning next season).

You realize he’s coming off injury ?
The Lin fan wants more time when he does well and then gets mad when he gets hurt when he plays too long

Yes, he's coming off injury and surgery from last year. Are you saying that the team has him on minute restrictions? I haven't seen Coach Pierce or Lin say anything about that.

I just want to see him in a meaningful and impactful role on a team that cares about winning. Right now, he's not getting that except for 2 recent games. Hopefully that either helps build his trade value or convinces the Hawks to sign him to a longer deal and make a real commitment to him.

Why would they do that ?
The nets didn’t get the return on investment on him

If you are questioning his ability to stay healthy, ok, that's a valid concern. But if the Hawks are willing to take that bet, then Lin can play a meaningful role off the bench on an improving team, and giving him a 3-year contract at a reasonable price would be a great idea. And if Trae doesn't pan out, the Hawks would have a capable starter for cheap...
