I think the discrepancy lies in 3 mil less for Arb, and the 14 mil benefits + 9.9 AVV. That’s about the 28-29 difference. I don’t know that these #s are correct, or that they count toward the cap.
Last time...show me how and where I am wrong. I do not want to argue with you, I don't even know or care who you are, all I wanted to do was give the bbs some actual numbers that they could work with. You chose to go another way. I've been waiting for about 19 posts. Show me, I'm all amenable to wrongness and all, but you do have to show me the where and why. I want numbers, bring it.
So we shed the following contracts from last year: McCann 11.5 mil Keuchel 13.2 mil Morton 8.875 mil Gattis 6.7 mil Sipp 6 mil Marwin 5.125 mil Yuli 2 mil We have added the following: Brantley 16 mil Chirinos 5.75 mil Rondon 500k Diaz pre-arb 3 Even with raises in Arb and Pre-Arb, I don’t see how you say we are 27 mil below 206. Based solely on the 180 we sat at last year, minus the 53.4 off the books, and the 22.25 added, we are at 31.15 less than 180, or 148.85. Add in 15 mil for all the increases, which is a total guess, and we sit around 164. That’s 42 mil below 206. Unless my 15 mil estimate is severely under the actual #, I again don’t know how you arrive at 27. Why are you separating benefits and AAV?
Out of curiosity what is the "benefits" and the "AAV adjustments"? I thought the guarnateed contracts already took care of any aav adjustments for those players
I also just ran the #s on all of the Arb players and their projected raises and I came to a 17.66 mil increase. Add that to the 148.85 and I project we sit at 166.51. That’s 39.49 mil available to reach the 206 cap.
AAV adustments... For salary cap purposes you take the total contract and divide it by the number of years. Gurriel got 5 years 47.5 million. His AAV is 47.5/5 = 9.5 million even though his salary this year is 10.4 million.
Interesting. I can see how these #s are difficult to pin down. Not to mention that a lot of the #s are negotiable, with a pending hearing. Best I can see, we should still have around 40 mil to reach the 206 cap. I don't expect us to go the full 206, but we have room to breath still. This is why I think Luhnow says we are still pursuing offensive and pitching upgrades. We can afford to do so, even if we can't shed payroll with a player like Reddick or Yuli.
