How did the team want him to be a different player than he was before? We wanted him to be a floor-spacing PF who hit about 40% of his 3s. He's the one who decided instead to become a gunshy PF who passed the ball the minute it hit his hands and was afraid to take the very same shot that we hired him to take. And how do you know it's "also true" that if you don't fit personally with Harden and CP3 that you don't "feel part of the team"? You're just guessing on that one.

Finally, Ryno did NOT take a paycut. All he agree to was that IF the Suns waive him during the season his final year, he'd take a reduced buyout amount. Why would he do that? Because Ryno's agent is smart enough to know that any team picking him up after the buyout will make up most of that money anyway. Ryno will almost certainly get nearly all of the money he's owed.

Melton looks to be helping the Suns. And Anderson is still sitting on the bench....and now his friend Ariza is gone.

If you ever wonder why Eric Gordon keeps shooting even when he's 0-for-infinity, just remember what happened to the guy who stopped shooting.

(Footnote: Yes, Gordon is a much better defender and 2-point scorer. But as long as a defender comes out to guard his 3's, he's doing that part of the job.)

You had to post this. You had to post this.

This is the ONE sharp stone in my shoe about Morey. He flushed a good player with Anderson to get two more manageable contracts of players who don't play. And one of these he'll likely need to include a good pick, still, to extricate him.

Or exorcise, for that matter. Morey and Tilman could stand over Brandon Knight yelling, "The power of Christ compels you!" over and over, then one of them jump out the window.

Anderson. The gift that keeps on giving.

If Knight averaged 12 ppg nobody would talk about it.

But you are right, Morey's risks are beginning to get annoying and yielding no fruits.

    Melton is playing?

More useful than Chriss and Knight. But we had to take the lower salary.

Yup. I never complain about EG shooting 3's. The shots are open. He just has to him them. And blend in his drives. In fact, to get a rhythm, I wouldn't be opposed to him taking some two point jumpers.

Unless Morey is able to turn Knight or Chriss into a good prospect without adding a 1st rounder (good luck with that) Suns obviously won that trade, we obviously had our reasons to do that but eh, there was always only one good piece in that deal, and Phoenix got it.

The only record we are breaking is the record for regression.

I voted no because I didn't want to lose Melton. Looks like he could have been contributing already this season, given our current situation.

Is Melton all that's separating us from another WCF visit (or beyond)?

If you answered no, you should probably agree losing Melton might suck in retrospect, but neither Ryno nor Melton were going to put us over the hump. Not with Ryno's dead-weight contract still on the books. Which means something else needed to happen.

Let's call it like it is: Ryno is a dinosaur that can't move, defend or shoot. He would be collecting DNP's if he was still a Rocket. He wasn't going to leave money on the table for us, so Ryno at $40M guaranteed was very likely going to cost us at least two first-rounders just to move him. Forget about upgrading the roster and better utilizing the 1/5th of our payroll he was occupying. We're talking two first-rounders just to get rid of him.

Not only that, but all things equal, who's more likely to play meaningful minutes: an athletic combo guard that can shoot and score....or a declining spot-up shooter that can't shoot? Ryno is approaching fringe NBA player territory without a real, discernible skill. Sure, Knight is a bit of a wild card given he's coming off injury and hasn't played meaningful minutes in so long, but I'd much rather have the latter at $15M than the former at $20M+. Ryno's strengths at their peak were unique to our system and our system alone. There aren't many teams want a PF that camps out at the 3-pt line.

I think we will soon find out whenever DM makes his big move that both A) Knight is movable and does have some semblance of value, and B) We can accomplish both goals simultaneously of moving Knight/Chriss and upgrading the roster. I highly doubt that happens with Ryno's contract still on the books. All Ryno was going to fetch us were other radioactive contracts like Parsons, Batum, Deng, etc.

Suns have been the last game for a few nights last couple of weeks, so Ive been able to see some Melton. Im a huge Morey supporter, I believe he is a top5 GM in the league and altough early, I know, these games have made the kid look as his biggest "mistake". Also acknowledging that all GMs have mistakes of course.

Point is, Melton looks capable at least. And he was the cost to let go Ryan Anderson who had decent minutes for us. So that's minus 2 bodies.

For this season, that's huge. For now Harrell keeps the lead as the former rocket succeeding who I wish was still with us

That’s a really good point. We have to see if Knight contributes in a month or so, but if we end up dumping Knight with a pick attached then that is a pretty big mistake by Morey. And it’s depth we gave up in that deal that could have helped us win an extra game or two at the start of the season.

It’s crazy. Some people are acting like we were having a terrible season before we moved Tucker into the starting line up. Ryno started 50! games in our best season.

No we didn’t lose much by giving him away, but we definitely would have been better off by not making that trade. And I do think we may end up holding onto Knight, which means next year Ryno’s expiring may be more valuable than Knight’s.

Valid point up here, lets wait if we can get something from Knight on the court or see him bring some value with his contract. Then we really can assess the trade. I can understand @baller4life315 perspective, and of course would be happy to see it materialize into help, as fast as we can.

DM once drafted Marcus Morris with the 14th pick.
One pick ahead of Kawhi Leonard.

Notwithstanding the fact that Morris is at least a solid NBA player - heck, he's one of the "MVPs" of the Celtics season thus far, that's probably DM's biggest mistake.

I have no problem so to speak with DM moving Melton.

I do have a problem if he moved Melton to turn Ryno into Knight+, then has to move a 1st round pick - however protected - to turn Knight effectively into an expiring... which will do little but expire (eg. Lin).

When he could have just held onto Melto (and Ryno... might have been useful) and traded Ryno + the same first round pick for the same player (Lin).

    Agree with your logic here.

On the Mistakes Ranking, Im not counting Kawhi, I know it looks bad, and it is LOL, but in perspective, we were desperate for help at the 4, and I dont remember who we had at the 3, but we were not looking for it at the moment.
