At least we would have been blessed with newer slants like "We kept Ariza, but Tillman is too cheap to re-sign shoulderless Luc Mbah Moute"

    Will you match 15 million?

    No.

There wasn't a meeting necessary for this exchange. When the Rockets found out he could be gone they wanted a meeting to talk him into taking less and he wasn't going to.

Really a non-story being made into a story. This played out exactly like we all assumed it did.

also, relevant in every Ariza topic imo.

    Ariza was 0-12 0-9 in g7.

Anybody find it weird that it said CP3 and Rockets wanted to sit down with and not Harden cp3 and Rockets?

Wonder what Harden thought of the situation? Maybe he agreed with Arizas decision..

A team is offering me $15 mil for one season of basketball. The other team only has enough to offer me $5. I'm at the tail end of my career. There is nothing to discuss.

Harden got his money. CP3 was going to get his money. So, Ariza got his money.

It is what it is. The NBA is a business. It's a business for the owners and it's a business for the players.

For the fans the NBA is entertainment. Sometimes it's hard for the fans to see things from the point of view of the owner or the players.

That's pretty much exactly what I think happened. Ariza has also said he was blown away by the fact that the Suns' GM and owner both Facetimed him one minute into the FA signing period. He said he'd gotten phone calls before, but never a Facetime by the top level guys. That little bit of flattery, combined with 15 million other reasons, was enough to make him not shop for a better deal.

They were talking for several years before the first day of FA. No need for a meeting. He coulda texted Morey to ask if they'd match Phx right after getting the offer and got a quick "nah bro you do you". Why waste time meeting face to face with someone you've been communicating with for years?

He probably knew ahead of time what the Rockets were willing to pay him. They definitely had a "pre-meeting" before July 1 through some sort of channels.

I gotta believe Ariza felt a little burned that guys like Parsons get paid, or more accurately paaaaaayyyyeddd. Ariza's deal was a bit unfair to him, especially seeing the landscape of the NBA, so he was a little underpaid as a rocket. But now? I mean, that deal just stinks in my book if we don't have a ring in hand. Look, if the rockets win game 6 or 7, this isn't a conversation. You match it. You overpay as a thank you. But with that loss? It's a hard pill to swallow. Good on Ariza to get his money.

Not as weird (at the time) as me standing in 100 degree Fahrenheit heat with my wife to help welcome Dwight.....lots of ex-Rocket greats, but its current star was nowhere to be seen. Whither thou, Harden? Knowest thou something?

Concerning Ariza, Harden probably knew that money talks. So why waste your time begging?

    It wasn't even that complicated.

Ariza believed that the Rockets knew what his worth was and if the Rockets were not willing to pay it, then he would move on.

The Rockets made no efforts to sign Ariza before the season ended and before free agency. So Ariza and his agent went and found the best deal for Trevor.

Ariza doesn't hate the Rockets, he is just keenly aware that it is a business and just like the Rockets, Trevor had his own interests, which were money and playing close to his home in Los Angeles.

Trevor felt he gave everything he could to the Rockets in the Warriors series, and it just wasn't quite enough.

It isn't a marriage, it was time to move on. Had the Rockets wanted to keep Ariza, they had opportunities to pay him what he wanted. The Rockets didn't, they believed they could replace him with a younger player that made less money, and preserve their ability to add a star.

    End of story.

Can’t we just move on from Ariza? I understand what he and Luc meant to the team but we have to move on. They are both gone, and it’s up to Morey to fix the void they left. Time to look to the future. Let’s wish Ariza the best and just turn the freaking page.

or the narrative would be 'ariza is old , he has been showing signs of declining for years now, we should of get someone younger and cheaper like James Ennis'

Then Trevor not taking a meeting with the Rockets makes 100% sense because he got a guaranteed 15 million, and the Rockets could barely give half of that. This feels a lot like a non-story.

"Oh sure, I'm going to renege on my deal with the Suns, so you can offer me less money because you really like me." - Said no one ever.

I agree with you and others here that it is a non-story and it WAS a non-story. Common sense back in July would have told everyone on this board that Trevor got his payday and went for it. Unfortunately some decide the easiest answer is not the right one and want to spin things like we didn't want Trevor back or our owner didn't want to (grossly) (over)pay to keep Ariza because he's too cheap to do so.
