hou was still down 1 after Fabian's free throws. Amani tied it going 1/2 from the line. Corey Davis with the cold blooded 3 after some defensive stops by UH

    keep climbing those rankings!

Now that you mention it your recollection of events is better than mine. And that was a big 3 by Davis and great team defense at the end to close it out.

Great win. I knew it would be tough. The Coogs can play better.

Jarreau looked much better tonight and played a lot. Still a bit wild though. Great win.

Whoa. Never knew about this thread.

Coogs doing well and are ranked. Sampson demands effort and it's shows.

Keep up the good work !!

It was another big win against a big team who was taking away our strength. But I thought even more important than the win was that we found a man to man buster in Jarreau. That has been our biggest challenge. And we solved it. He was driving from half court, and sometimes full court. I feel like this was the best team we played all year in terms of just overall talent and we handled them. The D was there, and with Jarreau, we get even taller. So solid. Coach continues to understand what he's seeing, and resolves it. You hit me like that, and I'm a believer.

Looking forward to watching Jarreau as he finds his place on our team. One thing for sure is he can drive to the hoop like no one I have ever seen wearing Cougar red and white in a long time if ever. He did look a little wild at times and I think he will benefit from having an outstanding coach like Sampson to help him find his complete game and still be a team player and not a ball hog like we had with Rob Gray.

He's the only one I can recall as well that was as relentless as Jarreau driving the lane. I hope Jarreau has a decent perimeter shot to go with it. If not defenses are just going to camp out and take charging calls. So far I can't tell if Jarreau has a decent step back or other type of outside shot. You would think that he does but so far I have not seen it. But he knows how to take it to the rim. That is for sure.

Rob Gray was far from a ball hog

Rob Gray had to be a ball hog. Nobody else on the team could score. There were times it was literally Rob Gray against the other team, and because he was little on the short side, it was a miracle he could do what he did. This year's team is more complete. I don't know who the goto is guy is going to be. If Brooks can learn to drive, it has to be him. But this is one team where maybe they just run their offense for last shot and whoever gets it gets it. I'd say right now everyone is on equal footing with their ability to shoot, even Robinson.

Just want to say that yesterday was my first game of the season (been tough for me this season with 3 kids, 2 of which are a newborn and a toddler). Wow! What an experience. This is a must watch team in a must experience venue. Even just 2/3 full it was loud. The even better news is in order for me to make it out to games I have to take 2/3 of the kids. Well, the toddler loved it and of course the 8 year already knows all the chants and songs so it is easy for her to have a blast. Only downer is most of the marquee match-ups are pretty much sold out, although I was able to snag 4 for the Tulsa game. I have a feeling UH basketball is about to explode in this city! Go Coogs!

Three games left in nonconference play, all at home. Utah State and NJIT are both pretty good. Coppin State is horribly bad and has not won a game yet this season. Very realistic that we can make it into conference play undefeated.

He was a ball hog. You must be confusing him with someone else.

Maybe Coppin State game we can empty the bench and look at some of the other players such as Wes Van Beck's brother.

your definition of ball hog is different then because the coogs had a system that worked best for everyone at the time when he was here and it translated over to the most success they've had since the dream era. calling him a ball hog is pretty much an insult. a ball hog is someone who has no regard to playing as a team and winning. Guys who chuck up shots after shots, no matter how bad they are Rob gray was the opposite of that. everyone in the UH system that was associated with the program loved him. If you think Rob gray is a ball hog then you must think harden is one too if you're consistent

Never heard someone be called a ball hog that was a huge reason for putting a program back on the map when no one else knew they'd be that good

I never thought Rob Gray was that good. He was good but there are 3 or 4 guys on our team now that are just as good or better. By jacking up all the shots he did often with noone in position to rebound he kept our team from being as good as it is capable of being. And yes at times Harden can be a ball hog. Nowadays with all the talent in the college and pro level isoball is counterproductive. Basketball works best when you get everybody on the team involved.

noone on this team a year ago was better than rob gray. as good as it is capable of being? Uh they did more than what anyone expected and came within a buzzer beater of beating the ncaa national champion. that has 0 to do with Rob gray apparently holding this team back according to you. that's just terrible
