He got 2 young assets for Ariza's expiring contract. Could have been valuable for us, a team that is sorely lacking in depth, instead of just letting him walk because we didn't want to pay the money.

    I get it...I'm just saying.

Did we have the large expiring contract the Wizards were looking for?

    No. Okay.

So, isn’t the “Morey made no trade at 11:01 PM EST last night because Tillman is cheap” narrative just a little knee-jerk?

I will say, Anderson’s contract is the gift that keeps on giving, and so flushing Knight is clearly a challenge. But this thread seemed like it was Katherine Hepburn’s obituary, written well in advance because, well, you know what’s coming, just have it ready.

Pathetic effort by Wash to try to salvage their team

Worse than pathetic. Dumped a promising young player for another who is on the back end of his career (even if he plays better in Washington than he did in Phoenix; it still feels solely like a salary dump).

So the Rox could've had KCP or a Rivers/Oubre package if they had signed Ariza to the same deal..interesting.

So can Rox get in the hunt for Oubre? It will now likely cost a FRP to do so..not to mention having to pay Oubre next summer in a so called "robust" market for his services. In all honesty, in that scenario still likely have to dump Knight in order to pay Oubre.

Not even a salary dump. They only shave a VERY small amount off, but are at 13 players and need to add a player so they might even go UP a slight amount. This trade did NOTHING for their LT issues. Ridiculous.

I don't think it would cost a FRP for Oubre right now. Feels like he has depreciated. 2nd round pick? Two 2nds?

If they didn't want to pay Oubre, they could have just let him walk. Rivers was expiring. This is beyond stupid from Washington. Whether they are 12th seed or 6th seed in the East is totally meaningless.

You can't tell me they couldn't have traded Mahinmi by attaching Oubre and a 2nd for an expiring. That would have solved their financial issues and they would have been just as likely to not win a 2nd round series in the East.

Genuinely shocked several grown ups signed off on this deal.

Ariza got his money but lost his freedom. Now he has to go play with the crapfest that are the Wizards. Could have took a reasonable offer with the Rox because he's no where near 15 million. Not hating on the guy either. He's 33 and this was his last chance to get paid and he did. But he can't complain about the trade or not going to Lakers or whatever. He could have signed anywhere he wanted to.

All teams make mistakes, a non-improverished owner would just eat the mistake contracts and maximize team talent,

I've noticed dumb deals are always accomplished whenever the Rockets are not involved. Where were all the naiive GM when the Rockets were trying to unload Anderson?

Disagreed. What a player is worth is determined by supply and demand. There are reportedly no less than 8 nba teams interested in trading for his service. Not only trading for him but giving up assets to acquire him. This means his 15 million a year contract Is positive.

Moreover, in the nba expiring contracts are almost always tradable The only reason we didn't sign Ariza is because of luxury tax concern. Cheap owner. Smh

I can imagine Clutchfans being upset that we traded a "Locker Room leader" in ariza for an unproven Oubre and Trash ass rivers who has a real beef with his starting PG. Assuming that the Wizards would want to trade with the Rockets because it seems like nobody wants to do that.

So now the narrative goes from Tillman's too cheap to retain the team to now Tillman is too cheap to sign Ariza to get us assets back during the regular season because signing and then trading Ariza was going to ever be a viable option?

Stick with one storyline because you're starting to sound like Stephen A Smith

Yall forget Ariza had arguably the best season playing for the wiz. This is about them trying a last ditch effort to salvage the season and the locker room.
