Weird that they didn't give him a QO though. Guess the market was hotter for CFM than the Astros anticipated.

I am not quite sure how we dont match that. I guess our job is to find the Charlie Mortons, not pay them. Whatever. This one hurts pretty bad. I wanted Goldy, mainly because that is a super elite bat at an affordable prospect price, and not getting him stung. This one stings just as bad or worse.

Aggressive? I mean this is the absolute and complete opposite of aggressive. Obviously, Crane has given the word that he wants a reduced payroll moving forward.

Seems pretty clear that the FO has serious concerns re: CFM’s shoulder. JL isn’t stupid, and he isn’t necessarily a penny pincher. We could’ve resigned CFM if we wanted to...but we didn’t want to. Move on, and thank you CFM you god damn legend

The front office has earned the benefit of the doubt, they have to have significant concerns with his health. It's literally the only reason I can think why we didn't even offer the QO.

On the surface, this looks really bad. Pitching depth is not good at all right now, and that is not a particularly ominous contract.

This has been a very bad off-season so far. A team that ended this season with so many question marks has added a few more.

As a fan, it sucks losing guys that helped Astros win the World Series. Health may be the reason Astros didn't make the QO (I think Morton doesn't test the waters and accepts if offered). It is also possible that Astros don't like paying market value for players, and they likely wanted to see if they could do better when they had to make a QO decision.

Not getting Goldy in a trade sucks more than not making the QO to Morton. Goldy would have been cheaper in money (not prospects) and is better. I think Astros are more likely to spend a little bit on prospect side than get a premium free agent to keep budget cost down.

They did win 90 games last year.

2/30 is more than I'd give him. At best, I'd do 1/15 with an option for a 2nd year. As much as I like Charlie, the injuries are just too much and aren't likely to get better with age. We'll see how he does sans Strom, too.

Hmm, eerily similar to that team that plays in the Toyota Center. :p

Martes and McCullers being gone next year kinda really puts us in a bad spot. I am surprised Morton was gone before Keuchel though.

Huge difference in that they can always fill in holes at the trade deadline whereas the Rockets aren't getting an impact player at this point.

    Hypothetical:

    Astros get:
    1B Justin Smoak
    SP Marcus Stroman

    Blue Jays get:
    P JB Bukauskas
    P Cionel Perez
    SP Brandon Bielak
    1B AJ Reed

Who says no? Also, same deal with the Tigers for Castellanos and Fulmer makes sense to me too.

The Astros did not want him to accept the QO and he likely would have.
