I’m not sure LA is really going to offer the kind of money that makes them competitive for him. They are adamant about staying under the luxury tax and it’s hard to see a way for them to sign him without going over.

You can look at Houston’s future payroll commitments and easily see a way for them to offer him $350M. Would it constrict them? Absolutely; it probably means no extensions for Springer, Correa, or any current pitchers. But it wouldn’t prevent them from continuing to add the supplemental pieces to keep the team as a WS contender during the Altuve/Bregman years.

Yeah maybe — and what about pitching beyond 2019? We may have no Keuchel (prob gone anyways) no Verlander and no Cole. Whitley James McCullers McHugh ? We’d have to open the wallet even deeper to get the championship caliber pitching . That’s my major concern for the future

I doubt he is signed, but it is not as long a shot as people think. If he does sign I think that would make Tucker available for SP or Realmuto. It always comes down to what the FO really thinks of Tucker and Correa's future demands. If Correa is going to be as expensive or more than Harper why not go for Harper and be able to play them both for a couple of years then Correa goes off onto the sunset. Even for two years can you imagine a lineup with Harper and Realmuto? The only sort of weak link would be Reddick. Regardless of which direction we go we will need to re-sign Cole, hopefully Verlander on the cheap, and trade for a TOR this year or next.

Certainly a concern, regardless of whether they sign Harper or not. My guess is they are content to get thru 2019 (adding 1 ToR SP with addl years of control) and then reassess. It’s possible they could go into next offseason with Kluber, McCullers, Whitley, and James all as established quality starting pitchers, in which case they’d only need a supplemental move for a MoR guy. Of course if Whitley and James bust, and McCullers has setbacks, and they’re not able to acquire a true ToR guy this offseason, then they would be faced with the grim reality of needing 3-5 SP.

How do you know Carlos is even in the nm plans?

If he doesn't stay healthy and hit like he is above average do you sign him or trade him?
Think ahead. Do not trade NOVA. That's your insurance

Astros already have Correa's insurance on the 25 man roster. Aledmys Diaz is actually under team control a year longer than Correa.

Keep your eye on the future Nova.

Diaz will get to spread his wings this year

Itll definitely be interesting if we get Avisail Garcia and Josh Harrison to fill out the bench. Move Yuli and Jake via trade.

It would be awesome to get Harper, but not at the cost of seeing Springer and Correa walk.

You need to pray Carlos turns it around or that argument is moot.

It might be he didn't want to go back to the Nats. Rejecting the offer doesn't mean the money was the reason. It might even be he would take less for a chance to win.

Best case for the Astros is that he signs something shorter with the idea of getting a ring or two, then go for his long term lucrative deal.

Kemp to MIL? Surely he can play 2B again. Now, Kemp may not be the answer MIL is looking for, but HOU/MIL may match up nicely debating how the rest of the roster shapes up...

Oh for sure. Last year wasn't good with the back issues. But I'm hopeful he can return to form.

Forrest Whitley reaching back and throwing as hard as he can.

Guy holding the radar gun said "110".
