8th on offense, 25th on defense.

Clint Capela has a bottom 7 RPM for a center in the league in ESPN's RPM. Negative on both ends.

Gordon has one of the WORST DRPM's in the league at -3.10. Horrendous.

Clark, Tucker, Nene and Paul are the only impact positives on DRPM on the team.

Offense doesn't feel like 8th recently.

Slow pace, bad defense skew perceptions. The offense is probably a half-step worse than last years if that when at full strength.

How can 8th be considered elite? Elite is surely top 3?

For an elite offense, it's kind of crap.

26th on defense. Slipped from 106 drtg to 113 in a season.

    Morey failed miserably.

Did some research on fouling. Eyes said they’re just committing more fouls, which I found to be true. Something like 4 more a game. That’s a crazy jump but they lost 2 experienced wing defenders and have yet to replace them.

Morey revolutionized our offense. Maybe he can do the same with defense? Harden by himself is a top level offense. They have decent defenders/system but Ariza was the lynchpin. The straw that stirred the drink. Here we are, January ‘19 and we still lamenting losing role players....

I don’t think the Rockets value defense as one of two co-equal sides of the ball.

Just look at our roster moves. It seems to me that Morey wants to get to at least an average defense but have an super elite offense.

There is good reason to believe in this philosophy. The best predictive tool for team success is point differential or Net rating. The easiest way to increase your point differential is to out score your opponent opposed to limiting them.

My question is: What is Morey going to do to get to at least average on defense?

After last summers rule changes, only perimeter defense matters.

Offense is 3rd in efficiency this year. Defense is 24th.

not only have we lost Ariza and luc but we've been without CP3 who is an elite defender, without coach B to show all the new guys how to run the defense, without ego who is a plus defender, rivers who joined recently and is a plus defender, and now without capela who anchors our defense.

until we have a full lineup it will be hard to predict how good on defense we actually are. however, we're 3rd on offense without cp3 and ego for extended time. that's amazing.I'm guessing with a full lineup we'd be #1 on offense and at least average (15?) on D. but keep in mind that scoring gives you time to set up your defense. improving on O will help lift our D too.

if we can add Aminu, bazemore, or another defensive forward to the rotation we would have a shot at a top 10 defense. remember, the rule of thumb is top 5 on one side and top 10 on another is the benchmark of a contender. we'd be #1 and have a shot at #10 with health and one big defensive addition.

CP3 is unlikely to be elite anymore. He was getting abused early on.

its true. you could tell he wasn't 100% healthy by the way he was moving. slow on both ends. hopefully getting 100% healthy now means we get elite cp3 back.

he may never be elite for a whole season again but if we get elite cp3 for the second half and the playoffs we are a contender.

If Capela is negative on both ends, then RPM is a dumb stat. Pretty much any ESPN advanced stat is dumb.

I've never seen such horrible paint defense in my entire life following the NBA.

You need to fix your thread title to:

The Rockets have an elite superstar, horrendous defense.

    Now, THAT makes sense.

Where'd you see this? NBA.com and bballreference both have us at 2nd offense, only behind the warriors, and 26th defense

Tucker is solid, as seen with the block on Brandon Ingram on saturday which was clean after replay.

Rivers is solid as seen on Saturday when he matched up late against caldwell-pope and Lance stephenson.

Their best defense is efficient offense especially since Rivers has protected the ball and limited turnovers.

Harden had me frustrated after ginobilli blocked his shot in the playoffs back in 2017.

    Poppycock! Rubbish! Nonsense!

Michael D'Antoni would never stand for such a thing!
