Trade CP3 and rebuild or embrace the "win now" strategy?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by Aruba77, Dec 10, 2018.

?

Trade Chris Paul and his enormous contract while we can?

  1. yes, move him sooner than later; rebuild around Harden and Clint

Is it all fanbases that act like this or is it just CFs?
You and I must be one of the only ones who still believes in CP.

The main job for Morey next year is to dump salary.

Why? Giving him just 20-25 million is not believing in him? Or giving him just a 3 year contract with team option is not believing in him?

Why does he have to dictate those options that are only favorable to him, and only him?

Most superstar players want the max, it is what it is. If you were in his position, you would do the same, get as much money as you can for you and your family. Is the contract the best, at the moment, no its not looking like it(even though i still believe he will turn it around). But it's really a risk we had to take.

I don't like his health. Going forward I don't see it getting better - it will probably get worse.

Getting almost all-star play from a guy for 50-60 games a season isn't terrible - but paying $40 million a year for it is.

Negotiation is key. I know he played well one season but he is hardly a long serving player.

You give 22-28 year old super stars this kind of contract but not aging 33 year olds.

It stings that he is probably going to be traded if Houston cannot reach WCF again. Could have been avoided with a better contract.

Never give out a contract when the answer to this question is no,

"would other teams want to trade for this player without me having to give up additional assets?"

A couple of prime examples: Ryan Anderson, Andrew Wiggins, Chandler Parsons, Joakim Noah, Chris Paul

You'd think the "smartest GM" in the league wouldn't make this mistake twice in a row during a championship window.

I am on the fence, I really like his style of play when he was 23-28, and he is a HOFer, Top 5 PG of Alltime but boi, he is a shell of his prime in certain games.

It's a risk we had to take after last year. We would still be over the cap even without his contract. , it's only gonna matter in 2 years, so we'll see what happens then.

I love CP3. Always have. That's part of the reason I want to deal him; I don't want to start hating that he's on the Rockets. His contract could have us DOA for a couple years of Harden's prime.

Was the last aging star that the Rox traded McGrady? Need some reference and examples.
Got Kevin Martin, good player but no star and role players back.

And McGrady was more done than CP3.

What do you envision coming back though? We are going for picks rite?

TMac was an expiring contract too so probably not the best comparison when CP3 is still owed about 124 million over the next 3 years

This Franchise showed loyalty to it's players paying out large sum of money in the past, now it's time those players to work.. James Harden do that.. show up every game, every nite may not be a good shooting but it won't be from not a lack of energy...

Maybe that's unprecedented. Good luck, GM!

In the real world, if we trade Paul we would not be able to keep Harden, and losing Harden is a risk. When you have a guy who's been a top 3 player for most of the last 5 years, you forget what it was like to not have even a top 15 player.

If I were GM I would plant some fake news to cause a rift between Harden and Paul. Would then offer Paul to the Suns for Warren, Ariza and Bender. I would trade Tucker and Gordon to the Bucks for Eric Bledsoe, Thon Maker (gasp) and their 2021 pick. Then I would hire someone to break Harden's non-shooting arm. Sorry Harden, it's the only way to stop you from playing for a long period, and it's the easiest to recover from. Then we give maximum minutes to Hartenstein, Bender, Qi, Clark, House, Caboclo, Edwards and Knight while letting Capela shoot 3's and run the offense from the high post. To justify his salary, Thon can whip up some excellent protein shakes for Zhou Qi. Fire MDA, let Bzdelik teach these kids to defend. Then I resign after my burner account is revealed where I have been posting caricatures of Tilman counting pennies. But being the penny pincher he is, Tilman hires Sam Hinkie and the tank is in good hands. The gods gift us Zion, who has by this time lost the 30lbs he needs to lose, and we are saved.

That was a nice little dream lol
