The protests are made up of both anarchists and right-wingers. It's not the mainstream.

Macron's government is telling Trump to keep out of French politics. Trump understands the French far greater than this 18%-approved one-term president.

Trump doesn't understand the majority in this country let alone France.

The funny thing is that France is already one of the best performers on carbon emissions per capita among industrialized nations. Probably because of their decision a long time back to go heavy on nuclear generation. Metric tons per person:

    France: 4.37
    Spain: 5.03*
    UK: 5.99
    Germany: 8.93
    Canada: 15.32
    USA: 15.53

Germany can focus on switching generation to renewables, but France won't get as much there. But, I think you understate how problematic Germany's renewables transformation has been. It might be a better question to ask why Germans haven't been protesting in the streets like the French have. Maybe they should be.

The most interesting part in Macron's speech for me was the part about raising minimum wage and canceling the decision to increase pension taxes.

I don't how it all would end but i find it very interesting to see if it would be enough to satisfy some of the protesters.

I'm amused that the artist had to put "French Revolution" under "Louie XIV", presumably because he doesn"t credit his audience with knowing who Louie XIV was.

Is this something from Mojoman? Who thought the French Revolution was under Louis XIV? I will say that I don't know who Louie XIV was.

Middle class French pay into a wellfare system with generations of sweat and blood. Now politicians want to give this money to anyone for nothing. Nothing is more anti-working class. Elitists push unchecked immigration because it does not affect them in their gated communities and ivory towers. Plain and simple.

It is no wonder the French are protesting.

And yet, it's easier for people to move up economic classes in France than the United States.

It says Louis XVI not Louis XIV. But, yes the joke relies on enough historical knowledge to understand the complaints of tax burdens and the government's unwillingness to tax the church or nobility to make the parallel. You'd think that anybody who got that far could make the leap from Louis XVI to the French Revolution without any help.

US border agents fire tear gas at foreign nationals attempting to trespass into the US. The illiberal mob is outraged for weeks at Trump.

Macron gasses his own people and launches grenades at them in order to enforce a poorly understood and burdensome tax. Not a peeps from the illiberals.

Thank you, that was pretty stupid. The fact that I did it while making fun of stupid people makes it doubly stupid.

    I am suitably chastened.

Macron shouldn't be compared to King Louis XVI, he has much more in common with Philippe Petain due to his collaboration with Merkel's 4th Reich.

The naked hypocrisy is obvious to anyone who has not drunk the propaganda koolaid in vast quantities. However, that apparently does describe quite a few posters here in this forum, sad to say.

What is worse is those who will try to portray one instance as akin to war crimes and the other they just ignore, thereby effectively giving their tacit approval.

    Macron upstaging Trump, yet again!

Clashes erupt in Paris as 'yellow vests' protest at unrepentant Macron

Rioters in Paris torched motorbikes and set barricades ablaze on the upmarket Boulevard Saint Germain on Saturday, as protests against high living costs and the perceived indifference of President Emmanuel Macron turned violent on the fringes.

The latest “yellow vest” marches began peacefully but degenerated in the afternoon as protesters threw missiles at riot police blocking bridges over the Seine.

Trump has every right to criticize that trash-digging dog Macron.

Also: can't wait for those carbon taxes here!
