Naw....the mvp dropped 35 and 8 and shot 50% yeah we lost but whatever.....and I was referring to his game. That step back 3 sheesh
Not really sure who I would compare Doncic too other than Larry Bird... his biggest asset is his basketball IQ and he might have the highest in the league right now other than maybe Jokic... at 19. Kid's gonna be something special.
He looked consistent because he was hittung tough shots at abnormal %. His last 5 or so games his % is abysmal. Will check it out when I get home.
I'm so happy for dallas mavs fans. I can image being in the building watching this 19 year old kid play around with the ball like it's a child's game. Got to be exciting to be a mav's fan right now.
He looks like the real deal, even better than most expected, but maybe back off the comparisons to all time legends for someone playing his second month of NBA ball? FWIW...he's more athletic than Bird...but then so is everyone. Bird didn't really have that step back, he just had a quick shot, and was a dead eye shooter. Doncic isn't that yet, but he does look promising in that area. With the step back and his drive to basket, probably does play more like Harden. Doesn't have Harden's drive yet...but does anybody in the NBA? Not sure who else to compare him to.
I hate making the hyperbolic comparisons myself... but who else can you comp him too? Who else mainly excels by having better basketball instincts than everyone at the floor at all times? His feel is just unreal and he's still so young... he makes jaw-dropping plays you just don't see with casual regularity
Yes, he does. Bird doesn't seem the best fit for play style though. The comparison the Mavs would like is he's far more advanced than Dirk was in his first year, in almost every way. Not the least of which is closing out games. Dirk developed into a deadly close out shooter...but criticisms of him on that early in his career were quite valid.
It's not just iq that goes with him. It's his technique that is something else. Footwork, wrist flick, chaining right moves together etc. Compile that with his size and you get something else. Chances are if he was ultra athletic he would never have to develop those skills as he did but if you get thrown into real madrid seniors at 16 you have to develop small mens game. He grew but ways of handling big+strong+fast guys persisted, especially those floaters and stepbacks and all the fakes in the world
