He isn’t going to be impeached. The best bet is that Trump loses some support and loses in 2020.

I think it’s high chance he’s impeached but no chance he gets removed

You keep missing the importance of the "campaign finance violation stuff"... it isn't that he was violating campaign finance laws (not that violating campaign laws isn't important), but that he did so to influence an election. Cohen has already testified that was the reason. That is the importance of what was in these filings. In the process, he defrauded voters.

They'd need a LOT more than a weak campaign finance violation case to push forward with an impeachment because I don't think they'd even get full support from Democrats due to fear of it backfiring unless they really had something solid. If that "something solid" materializes, then sure, you probably get impeachment but are still unlikely to get a removal from office.

The problem with that is it is 100% based on the word of an admitted liar who was seeking to limit his prison time for lying to congress....do I have to explain why that is unlikely to hold up? To get past that, Trump would just have to show that he did the same thing in the past when not running for office and that entire case falls apart.

It's a laughably weak case unless there is hard evidence and even then, there's the precedent that it's acceptable for presidents to commit crimes in order to hide infidelity. You guys were a major part of that precedent being set, so you can't complain about it now.

Again, you are trying to convince only yourself. To think that the State of NY is basing these serious charges against a sitting president based only on Cohen's testimony is naive at best. The filings themselves state Cohen's testimony was credible and consistent with other evidence.

The feds likely have tapes of Trump incriminating himself, thanks to one of Cohen's recording. Ultimately, it will all come out for everybody to see.

    ^^
Does this fool above me actually think that career prosecutors just accept the testimony of a individual without corroborating evidence?

I’m sure pretty much every Dem consultant sees the best path for their party long term would be a mueller report and congressional hearings being so damning that it sends Trumps approval rating into the 20’s at the beginning of 2020 and the calls for impeachment come from within but stall out to near election to the point where there is a mad scramble for the GOP and ends up where the Dems win back not just the White House but the Senate along with retaining a strong hold of the House. Giving the Dems back complete control to reshape the government for the foreseeable future.

I think the thing to watch for with be the key players in the senate that do not want to lose in 2020. Mitch McConnell being one of them whose seat is up for re-election. The calls to impeach and remove might be more likely to come from the Republicans next year who want nothing to do with giving the Dems control of the entire government. Also giving them the power to add seats to the Supreme Court too if they wanted.

However ... if Trump feels attacked from within as well watch out for this president especially now with John Kelly moving out and basically Javonka moving in to have a White House fun by “the family”. Either way (impeachment or getting beat in the election), this president is not leaving office that easy. I fully believe he will create a firestorm at some point on his way out. The secret service, DOJ, etc need to have a game plan for a potential moment where sh$& hits the fan.

We searched for collusion, we found something that may or may not be a campaign finance violation, therefore impeach. Tbh Trump would want an impeachment over a minor infraction that pretty much every single person already considers to be part and parcel of donald trump, there'd really be no way better to solidify his witch hunt claims than them prove it for him by impeaching him for being well, him.

Of course the Dems would not want to impeach just over these two crimes. That’s why they are happy to have Mueller’s investigation on-going as a way to say we have to wait for all the facts to build a complete case to present the American people.

They aren’t impeaching him over two campaign finance crimes, and they aren’t impeaching if the Senate is giving them clear signs they wouldn’t remove. That doesn’t mean they can’t make it a political hammer they hit over the head at every chance they get. That technically the president is a criminal and Congress has a constitutional duty to rectify that if needed. Why is Mitch McConnell not abiding by the constitution? Put it on Mitch as a reason why the Dems aren’t impeaching.

The last two president that were impeached weren't charged with the crime (bj in the Oval Office, break-in the Watergate Hotel) itself, but the cover-ups. Just saying...

Dude you got access to all the redacted lines that compromised like 50% of the court filings because of a ungoing investigation?

Dude are you in Mueller's team? Are you some legendary prosecutor lurking on a mere basketball forum? I'm honored .

The biggest rebuttal to the likely GOP talking point (that you can’t impeach for such a minor crime) will be that many of the sitting senators actually voted to impeach Clinton for perjury... and not even perjury related to the subject of the probe. Perjury related to an affair of all things.

In terms of historical reference, Trumps crimes are actually pretty damning. But that doesn’t mean I’m advocating Impeachment over these two felonies. It is correct that Trump would LOVE to go to political war in an impeachment hearing if this is the core crimes he’s having to answer to.

Trump knows, as everyone else does, that the normal rules simply do not apply to Trump and with the Trump followers in the country so indoctrinated in propaganda, the bar is set so much lower for this president than any other president to ever sit in the Oval Office.

Mind you. Andrew Johnson was impeached for firing his secretary of war. In contrast to Trump who seemingly got away with (at least for now) blatantly firing the director of the FBI and bragging in public about how he did it for corrupt purposes.

Yes impeaching Trump is incredibly difficult and shouldn’t be done without a pretty damning case to be made because the normal rules just do not apply to Trump with having such a cult like brainwashed section of the country.
