...well, I think the one thing we can all say about the Donald is that he's consistent.

...I mean, if he has to use flash cards at a public meeting, then why shouldn't his appointees?

I'm really just getting more and more numb to this level of stupidity from the administration.

How many TV personalities with no other skill set were appointed to key posts under Obama?

Do you have such a list. The only nominee I can remember was Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who was rumored to be a candidate for US Surgeon General. At least he was a doctor (noted neurosurgeon). But as you know, he was not named USSG.

Compare that with a former Fox reporter, who had no diplomatic experience when named State department spokesperson. I think its noteworthy they downgraded the UN Secretary role to a non-cabinet position, I suspect to avoid her having to be confirmed?

Trump was a TV person. He became a president by watching the news. He became the best president ever by working with the info fed by the news.. There is no reason the girl, who actually broadcasts the news, can not be a wonderful UN ambassador.

Obama aids and cabinet members are in the media today BECAUSE of their experience in high level government positions.

With Trump it's the exact reverse.

Well, she's a woman, not a girl. She has a Masters in Journalism from Columbia. I have no problem with her being a spokesperson in the administration, which she seems qualified to do. I do have a problem with her being the freakin' UN Ambassador. She has zero experience or qualifications for this post. This is really Bolton and Pompeo consolidating power and reducing the standing of the UN in general. Just shockingly stupid. Presumably Trump is still stewing that the entire UN laughed at him.

Good post. I would actually applaud if she were made White House Press Secretary to replace that infernal b!tch, Suckabee Sanders (Pardon my French).

UN Ambassador? It's an embarrassment. A national embarrassment. Oh, the deeply experienced diplomats from over a hundred countries that will surround her will be polite enough to her face, but they will be laughing behind her back, and worse, laughing at our country for having a leader that would turn such an important appointment into a joke. I've heard that he intends to remove the UN Ambassador as a cabinet post. It's not Congress turning its back on the League of Nations and Wilson, but considering the disdain trump has exhibited towards the UN, it's getting there. The topper? She likely got it for her looks. Her experience in "diplomacy" amounts to a year as State Department Spokesperson, and a stint as an anchor on Fox and Friends!

Samantha Power was a journalist and writer before joining up with Obama

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samantha_Power

She also had some pretty terrible things she backed like the Libyan "humanitarian" intervention and the Saudi war in Yemen in spite of her background. Nauert will be a puppet and mouthpiece of the right so it doesn't really matter what her opinions are if she has any.

5 years as war correspondent and writer and 8 years foreign policy creation

1993-1996 4 years as war correspondent, covering the Yugoslav Wars for U.S. News & World Report, The Boston Globe, The Economist, and The New Republic.
she attended Harvard Law School, receiving her J.D. in 1999
2000 - she published her first edited and compiled work, Realizing Human Rights: Moving from Inspiration to Impact (edited with Graham Allison). Her first book, A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide, grew out of a paper she wrote while attending law school. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction and the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize[13] in 2003.
1998 to 2002 - Power served as the Founding Executive Director of the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, where she later served as the Anna Lindh Professor of Practice of Global Leadership and Public Policy.
2004, Power was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world that year.
In fall 2007, she began writing a regular column for Time.
Power spent 2005–06 working in the office of U.S. Senator Barack Obama as a foreign policy fellow, where she was credited with sparking and directing Obama's interest in the Darfur conflict.
She served as a senior foreign policy adviser to Obama's 2008 presidential campaign
In January 2009, President Obama appointed Power to the National Security Council, where she served as a Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights.
Power kept the U.S. out of the Durban Review Conference, the 2009 iteration of the UN World Conference against Racism, which was criticized for descending into "a festival of Israel bashing."
Power advocated for military intervention in Libya during the Libyan Civil War on humanitarian grounds.[33]
With then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and UN ambassador Susan Rice, Power lobbied Obama to pursue a UN Security Council resolution authorizing an international coalition force to protect Libyan civilians.[34]
June 5, 2013, U.S. president Barack Obama announced her nomination as the new United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

    VS

30 years TV reporter, host, actress, and spokesperson and ZERO years foreign policy creation

In 1996, Nauert was a reporter for the syndicated weekly business program First Business.
She worked for Fox News from 1998 to 2005, first as a contributor for three years and then as a correspondent for four years. During her time as a correspondent, she regularly contributed to The Big Story.[5]
From 2005 to 2007, Nauert held positions at several news organizations, including ABC News as a general assignment correspondent, where she contributed to ABC World News Tonight, Good Morning America, and Nightline.
While at ABC, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on the special series 13 Around the World.[5]
In 2007, Nauert returned to Fox News as co-host with John Gibson of the weekday edition of The Big Story[6] until it was cancelled in 2008.
Nauert also co-anchored the newscasts Good Day Early Call and Good Day New York Wake Up with co-anchor Steve Lacy weekday mornings for Fox Broadcasting Company owned-and-operated station WNYW in New York City. In October 2012, Nauert left Good Day Wake Up and became a news presenter for Fox & Friends.[6][7]
    Acting Appearances - Brother's Keeper (1 episode, 1999), playing herself, 24 (3 episodes, 2010), playing herself

Nauert has also worked as a government affairs consultant on issues including health insurance, Social Security and taxes. She was also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.[citation needed]
On April 24, 2017, the United States Department of State announced that Nauert would be the new State Department spokesperson, her first role in government.[8]
She held her first press briefing in that role five weeks later, on June 6, 2017.[9] Following the dismissal of Steve Goldstein on March 13, 2018, Nauert was named acting Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs.[10]
In April 2018, Nauert voiced support for Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen. She also condemned "Iran's malign influence" in Yemen.[11] In May 2018, Nauert said in response to the Gaza border protests: "We oppose actions against Israel at the International Criminal Court (...) because it does not help the cause for peace."[12]

In July 2018, Nauert noted that the anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy and the long U.S. relationship since the Marshall Plan provided evidence of a strong ties between the United States and Germany.
In fact, Germany and the U.S. were enemies at the time of the D-Day invasion, so Nauert's comments called her judgment and understanding of political history into question.[13][14]

In August 2018, Canada called for the immediate release of Saudi human rights activist Raif Badawi and his sister, Samar Badawi.
In response to Canada's criticism, Saudi Arabia expelled the Ambassador of Canada and froze trade with Canada, leading to a decline in Canada–Saudi Arabia relations.[15]
Nauert said: "It is up for the Government of Saudi Arabia and the Canadians to work this out. Both sides need to diplomatically resolve this together. We cannot do it for them."[16]

On November 1, 2018, it was reported that President Trump offered Nauert the position of United States Ambassador to the United Nations to replace the outgoing officeholder, Nikki Haley.
Sources reported that Trump previously had former presidential advisor Dina Powell on the top of his list of people under consideration for the position before she withdrew her name.[17]

I didn't bother to even research it....ok I lied...I just looked it up. The quote wasn't as dumb as it sounded where you bolded. It was awkward but it didn't sound like she was using it as a reference for the strong relationship with Germany, but whatever.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...ns-now-shes-headed-un/?utm_term=.3e88c9cfd87e

*note* my point countering what you bolded doesn't mean I'm fawning over her selection or anything. I'm just pointing out that the reality of the bolded part doesn't match up with how it is being portrayed in my eyes.

Shes not even much of a reporter. It's not like she's Bob Woodward. She sat in a studio and read a teleprompter, mostly. It's like one step up from reading a teleprompter on a soap opera.

I'm beyond getting mad at this stuff. Trump's gonna Trump. I expect him to nsme one of his Hooker/p*rn Stars as Secretary of the Interior once Ryan Zinke gets convicted of a few felonies. Maybe his doorman st Trump Tower is ready for the big time.

Don’t get so worked up over Trump hiring nobodies. Whoever he picks during his tenure, who accepts the post and doesn’t get dishonorably fired by Trump during his tenure, will wear that brand of shame for being attached to Trump for the rest of his or her life. Do not disparage this Fake Blonde News anchor. pity her
