Astros have not been as aggressive as most figured. Including me. ATL/PHI/NYM seem to be the ones to watch for now. Sources: Still “in" on J.T.Realmuto: NYM, PHI, SD, ATL, TB….not as aggressive but “in” are LA, COL, Milw, Hous, CWS I would guess the Not as Aggrssive goup has offers on the table and have said I wont go over that amount. The Aggressive ones above I would bet arent close to those of below and two of which have to really really step up because there in the same division.
I would guess they def want top prospects for Realmuto. Astros top prospects are better than most teams.
Newest rumored deal with the Braves would be 3B Austin Riley (#1 Braves prospect per BA) and RHP Mike Soroka (last year's #1). Marlins apparently asked for Ozzie Albies to be included initially. Those are big-time prospects.
Virtually nothing has happened; the ****ing Winter Meetings haven’t even started. Goldy and Eovaldi certainly don’t represent enough evidence to label Houston as not aggressive. When all of the major free agents and trade candidates have moved, then we can complain. Or at least wait until Christmas. Geez.
Heard that and it was reputed saying the Braves never offered that nor would they ever. It may be what the Marlins are asking for but no way they get it
The complaining about a team that is essentially a lock to win the division is pretty funny. I don't really care how we stack up against the Yankees, Red Sox, or Dodgers in December. Let's see what the roster looks like in September. Luhnow rebuilt the back end of our bullpen in the middle of the season for almost nothing in terms of prospects and dollars. Let the guy work. Also, get used to watching the bigger market teams wheeling and dealing while we stand pat. The Yankees have almost double the revenue of the Astros. They haven't even begun to spend the way they can and have in the past. They could sign Machado, Harper, Keuchel, Britton, and Robertson while still having a bigger net profit next year than the Astros.
Schwarber>Cruz. LH bat, and not an old washed up cheater whose production could abruptly fall off a cliff at any time. Easy choice for me.
I wouldn't mind Schwarbomb as a DH. He can't hit lefties but that's alright. He's young and he could still have some upside.
Yes, I'd look into him if he won't cost much as a platoon option. I think that's our biggest need right now in terms of hitting. A power bat from the left side that crushes righties.
The way the shift kills lefties I don't care if we add a left handed hitter. It got old watching McCann get thrown out from the 2nd baseman playing in RF. We saw some of that with Kyle Tucker as well.
He's a ~mlb average fly ball hitter (.82 last year, .72 career GB:FB, .78 was the MLB avg last year, Tucker was at 1.04), I was surprised to look and see that he only hit into 6 DPs last year. Also, the shift may not be around much longer. I may start a thread on that. Not sold on him, but he'd basically take Gattis' roster spot and they could do a lot worse. I trust Ground Control.
Would love for HOU to put together a video montage/tribute for Valbuena when LAA comes to town. One vet on the market that intrigues me: Adam Jones. Seems like a great buy low candidate. Not a lefty, but could slot Springer in RF and shouldn’t cost a ton. Picking up Jones and Schwarber would be an interesting duo. Seemingly palatable cost, but it would certainly require us to move 1-2 position players. C: Churassi OF: Springer, Jones, Reddick IF: Bregman, Correa, Altuve, Yuli DH: White, Schwarber BN: Diaz, Kemp, Marisnick
I would not be super interested in Jones. He can't play CF anymore and at the plate I would rather have Kemp because Jones doesn't get on base often enough. Schwarber... To me he could end up being a left handed Gattis. I would prefer a better hitter like Jose Abreu or Michael Brantley.
They need a lefty with pop, somehow, somewhere...1B/DH seems like the easiest place to "bargain" shop.
Cruz is washed up? News to me. He also will only get a 1 year 10-12 million/2 year 20 million dollar deal. We need a legit DH, and Cruz is a perfect stopgap. Also I know he is young, but I wouldn't make Tucker untouchable.
