This is hogwash. If what you stated in the first paragraph were actually true, then any politician could secretly pay hush money and claim that it was to uphold their personal reputation and not done for political purposes. That's not the way it works at all. Technically, I believe Trump could have paid off the two women with campaign funds (and reported it to the FEC) and would be okay legally, but of course that would be a huge ethical red flag and absolutely horrible publicity leading up to the election once it came out; thus, the reason they didn't elect to go that route and instead chose to funnel the money through fake invoices paid to Cohen after he had paid those women, which is a felony that violates campaign finance law. What is it exactly that you think Cohen pleaded guilty to if that isn't illegal in your eyes?

Yes we know Mueller is investigating Trump. We know Cohen has agreed to cooperate. Let me know when Trump is charged with something

Again, please let us know when someone actually files a complaint about this with the Federal Election Commission, who actually has jurisdiction over these matters. But nobody has, for obvious reasons and I will not be holding my breath waiting for anyone to do so, for the same reasons.

Just so I make sure I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying that Cohen pleaded guilty to a felony count of violating campaign finance law but didn't actually violate campaign finance law?

That is correct. What he pleaded guilty with regards to this specific matter is not actually a crime.

eg of trumpeteers parroting the ever-changing, convenient, talking points

    the back-pedaling started from

there is to no collusion to
collusion is not a crime, then
the guilty pleads have nothing to do w Trump, then
let me know when a complaint filed against Trump (never mind that he has been identified as an unnamed co-conspirator)

Because these payments are not actually campaign contributions and are not violations of any laws related to campaign contributions. If the Democrats believed they were, you know that they would file a complaint about them with the FEC. But neither they or anyone else has done that.

Has Trump been charged with something. What evidence of collusion has been shown?

So the Democrats, angry because they lost an election, convinced the Deputy Attorney General (appointed by Trump and confirmed by a Republican-controlled Senate) to appoint a special counsel headed by Robert Mueller (registered Republican and former FBI director who was appointed by a Republican president) who, in turn, convinced Trump's personal lawyer to plead guilty to a felony of violating campaign finance law for payments to silence women that didn't actually break the law? That is some high-quality witch-hunting that would make 17th century Salem, Massachusetts proud.

thanks for responding. due to the timing of the payments i'm not certain the bolded part of your statement is accurate though. this is what the prosecution will attempt to prove in the report/court cases.

it also seems plausible, to me at least, that perhaps nobody has filed a complaint to the FEC yet because they're waiting on the the results of the investigation.

This is why I did not engage Mojo with a detailed, fact based explanation.

This is a plea deal, which is an agreement between the prosecutor and the defendent. There will not be a court case and there will not be any validation of or ruling on any evidence or the legitimacy of the charges being pled to.

This deal is with the Southern District of New York, by the way. In any case, the judge just accepts the filing of this agreement between the two parties, he is not responsible for validating or editing the contents of that agreement.

Yeah, who set the parameters on that investigation? You’ve got a lot of nerve using “tard” to describe others when you are clearly not comprehending where this whole thing is going.

Lol...in your legal experience, how many incidents have you encountered where someone pleads guilty and is sentenced for something that is not actually a crime?

    Hahah, this is great.

There's good reason to believe that the friendly/sham investigation that the House Republicans ran with #1 Trump Superfanboi Devin Nunes in the driver's seat, and the false sense of security it instilled, encouraged many others, like Cohen, to lie with impunity in their testimony before it. Very soon, those transcripts, will be in possession of the incoming Democratic House leadership and thus available to Mueller, and will provide a roadmap to future leverage for lying-to-congress prosecutions of various Trump-affiliates (and sons).
